God may be real but he won't return any of my calls

So I keep asking God to talk to me.
    And he keeps not answering.

What do I make out of this? God doesn't exist, he does but he just doesn't want to talk to me or perhaps there is some sort of ritual I failed to perform.

I could just go on faith, but that wouldn't be faith in god but in tradition, in the number of people who believe the same thing or in some guy with a funny hat.

God has already spoken to you through the Bible.

Try reading it and then you can answer Him.

Read as much as you can, not just the Bible.

Read as much as you can, not just the Bible.

Tim, that must be one of the poorest comments I've seen in this forum.

Aren't you not an advocate of reason, and of making a reasonable judgement? Surely then reading as broadly as possible particularly reading the Bible if you are considering the God of Judeo-Christianity, or reading other holy texts is the way that you can broaden your mind the most. Along with books from skeptics, and books of Christian apologetics also.

Surely that is the best option if you are seriously thinking about God any form thereof.

He said "not just the bible" not "just not the bible." Big difference.

Guilty as charged. It's getting a bit tired now, I'll try to think of something better for the New year.

I'm not into saying what the atheists say, but yours makes no sense comparing it to what they say

I completely agree. I think you misread my post. Yes my view would be go through the various religions and world views and find what works for you.

In my experience of life those who read the most tend to cope the best, no matter what their beliefs are.

I have a belief that 'Gods' word (i have an abstract conception of god - but i do believe in my own way)... ie. "the book" refers to everything that has ever been written, including art, music and movies...

if you continue to look for what is good and what's right answers will come to you..

as we continue to make art, write stories, delve into philosophies.. we are constantly refining the word of god... this does not mean that god sent for example 'Texas chainsaw massacre' so that we would follow literally and go out and kill, but mybe that people can look into it, see what's in murderers heads, and eventually we might cure the world of it...

john lennon.. i have to admit it's getting better, its getting better all the time..
imagine all the people, living life in peace

    Dire straits... Why worry

    Brian Eno.. By this river

Bob Marley... Lively up yourself, no woman no cry,

just some of the words i believe god sent to cheer me up! :D

The spiritual life is difficult Selkies. I think faith is basically about trust. It's easy to have faith when we feel consoled by God's presence but then we have bad days where we feel far removed from God and we begin to doubt God's presence during the good days we've had.

We need to trust that no matter what happens, God is nearby and that everything that happens to us is an opportunity to grow spiritually.

When we are weak, we should pray for strength. When tempted, we should pray for strength. I think it's all about trust.

I think it's also very important to examine our conscience daily and see how we have failed and resolve to do better in future. I think this and meditation/mental prayer is the way to make progress.

    God bless,
    Noel.

    Shouldn't take too long.

No, it doesn't -- thought it was wiser to leave it there, so that everybody could see the kind of misrepresentation by the religious that us atheists have to put up with!
