Looking for advice here to complete my setup.
Three storey house with cables home run to walk-in wardrobe on top floor.
    Sky HD & multi-room into 8 port multi-switch.
TV's in bedrooms on top floor are connected by coax using old Sky boxes.
    Two TV's are 19".
32" in other bedroom. Would consider connecting this TV by HDMI as run less than 10m.
Sony 40" 1080P in sitting room below. This is connected by HDMI, 2 Cat 6, coax, VGA and 5 RG59. Just using the HDMI for HD material at the moment.

On lower ground floor I have HDMI using Cat 6 and HDMI baluns to AV receiver and projector. Using RF remote to change channels. All other TV's are controlled by Magic-eye.

Top of attic is not insulated yet as I feel that I will need to run some more cables and I want to get that completed before finishing insulation.

Am also using Popcorn Hour to projector.
Ideally would like to locate PH and NAS in comms cabinet with all the other cables.
As I am happy with quality of HDMI baluns over Cat 6, I was wondering if I should run Cat 6 to the other TV's as well. Some of the TV's are too small at the moment for HD but may upgrade the TV's in time.

I also have ceiling speakers in the three bedrooms but they are not connected. Was wondering if I should bring sound from the back of the TV's or whether to run the speakers back to the comms room ?

Any other cables that you might suggest ?

Look forward to hearing your ideas !

    Joe

    Hi Joe
You said you have HDMI Baluns using cat 6, I have two lines of cat 5e shielded to each of my tv points around the house, can they be connected to the hdmi baluns as its too late to change the cable.
Where did you buy the baluns? Is it difficult to connect the Cat cable into the balun?
    Regards

I ran 2 lengths of unshielded Cat 6 from my SkyHD box to my amp and projector. The route was tricky and was over 40 metres so HDMI was out. The spec for the balun said that one of the Cat runs should be shielded. Mine is not and I am very pleased with the SkyHD picture @720P. I do not have any 1080P source yet. Details of the balun are http://www.avovercat5.com/products/digihdmif.htm

The Cat 5/6 is simply terminated with RJ45 connections and you plug the pair of cables into a balun at each end.
I bought the HDMI balun but they make other baluns also, for component or whatever connection you like. If you had a standard Sky+ box at this stage, you would buy component baluns and upgrade to HDMI baluns when you change your equipment.

The reason for my OP was to inquire if I should really run pairs of Cat 6 to my TV's at this stage. They are connected by coax at the moment but the time will come when I may be looking for Cat 5/6 and it is best to put the extra cable in now ?
