Flatscreen TV Vs Flatscreen Monitor

    Hey..
I'm not sure if I'm in the right forum here but I'll give it a go..

I have a small office in my house & want to make it a bit more cosy, there's a TV (coax) point in the wall & I was thinking of getting a small TV for the room.

As money's tight I was thinking of either buying a small flatscreen TV & using it as a PC monitor too, or the cheaper option seems to be to buy a flatscreen monitor, install a TV card in the computer & watch TV on the PC screen.

Has anyone any opinions on which would be best....??

    All replies appreciated!

Having had experience with both options I would strongly recommend going with a TV/Monitor (if you budget will allow). It's much better quality & bang for buck IMO.

Depending on where you are located & how you receive your TV stations you may need to ensure that the TV tuner is capable of receiving both UHF & VHF.

A lot of the units being imported by UK companies with outlets in Ireland don't have dual tuners.

Most of the Samsungs do & the larger size higher end W series Sony's too.

With STG. being almost 1:1 you should look at purchasing online as the Irish retailers are blatantly screwing the consumer at present.

This is a lovely 22" TV/Monitor with both UHF/VHF & keenly priced too.

    Or this 19"

Not 100% if this has dual tuners but a simple call to (Phone: EIRE 0818 717 100) will answer it for you.

Just be aware that a flatscreen TV will usually have a lower resolution than a smaller PC monitor - essentially the pixels on the TV are bigger. This is probably OK if you're not going to be sitting right in front of it anyway. I regularly hook my laptop up to a 32" 720p TV using its VGA port and it looks great on it once the laptop is configured to use the TV's native resolution. Far better than it ever was using TV-out on the laptop connected to a CRT TV.

got my laptop connected to a 26" samsung via vga now!! looks great but as said native res is poor compared with a pc monitor of that size. Movies look great and i can have picture in picture and watch tv while i surf etc .

One major thing you need to be carefull of the settings as the tv's can be much brighter than a pc screen and can be uncomfortable to work off for long periods unless you can set them up to be comfortable. This is true for both monitors and tv's i know but lcd tv's more so as you would not normally sit as close to one as you would a pc monitor would you ;-)
