It was eventful thats for sure.Visibility was poor up to the sally gap but the sun broke through nicely after that.Roads were fine until I got to the top of the climb past kilbide army camp at bohernabrena.Hit a river of ice for about 100 yards at the start of the descent.Won't bore you with the details but got down in one piece.
Had two car-related incidents, the first at the junction of the military road and tne road up from glencree past the liam horner memorial.I was under a fair head of steam heading towards lough brey and could see the car stopped at the yield, made eye contact and watched as he pulled out right in front of me.Jammed on,back wheel left the ground but stayed up.Then had to wait while he slowly preformed a three-point turn with no acknowledgement of my presence:mad:.The next one was coming down from the sally gap towards the entrance to kippure estate flat out and a car exits to turn right towards me.I again made eye contact but he pulled out -and stopped in the middle of the road!!- I was doing about 73kph at this stage so my options were some what limited but he moved with less then 2 or 3 metres to impact. the driver looked white as a ghost, probably didn't look too healthy myself:).Alls well that ends well!!

emty that sounds eventful glad to hear ur in one piece. I went out around 1pm by myself (thinking all sensible people would have their day's cycling done at that stage!) I did a similar spin sally gap via stocking lane and back the same way as stephens day.

That frost on the road home stole my mojo! I was totally spooked by it and walked a bit of it, after it finished i kept on imagining the road was frosty for a couple of kms even though it was only wet.

Hope to god I find my mojo before the end of the week or I am in serious trouble.
If anyone spots it pm me.;)

Brrr, looks cold. Only 1 spot of ice was there?

Sounds scary Emty ! Went for a short spin up 3rock on the mtb today (with nice new tyres and chainset) to try and get rid of the remains of a cold. Steep uphill with rocks and such is incredibly tiring, really run out of puff very quickly. Good training though I guess.

Hopefully Saturday is nice and ill boards folk will all be repaired and on for some distance !

Glad you are ok Emty, the bike is looking well too (though not very euro!).

All these spin reports are driving me nuts, I was in bits after 5 mins on the rollers today (possibly because I go completely rigid out of fear and that in turn makes it much harder) but I hope to be back in time for saturday. Need to get out of this house!

I went for a little spin up to the Cruagh Gap and back in the late afternoon. No ice. Many beautiful views on the way using Edmonstown Road, much more scenic than Stocking Lane.

I lost my left glove though somewhere on the way up so I had one frozen hand on the way down when it was really wanted! If anyone sees a black and yellow glove on the side of the Edmonstown Road near the junction with Mount Venus Road, it's mine. :pac:

Sounds hairy emty, glad you got home in one piece. I went out on Monday (Howth, Portmarnock, Malahide), a nice 65km but very cold, feet were numb by the end. Highlights included a mad descent down Howth south into a headwind. Forcing me to pedal furiously rather than dump speed (which is what I normally do because I get nervous). The road between Portmarnock and Malahide is a lovely rolling ribbon of tarmac, and a great view of waves crashing to boot. Hot tea in Malahide (lovely) and then home on the Malahide road. Great day.

Just checked ut the photos, ice is mad! And you went up Kippure again? I can't imagine it being colder than last Friday, but your photo suggests it was much colder. Fair play balls of steel ;-)
