I got a DS recently , just wondering , when I go into the settings menu do I have to turn the DS off in order to get back to the main screen after Im finished with the settings?

My DS is probably an antique as it is over 1 year old, but it shuts down automatically to save any settings changes- this may or may not apply to newer models! I still haven't found a way of changing this.
