Garwin Nuvi 250 Map Updates

Not the best with such gadgets but wonder is there any way I can update my GPS for free with some very good maps? All help greatly appreciated - thanks.

I got the nuvi 250 for Christmas and on registering with their website was able to download jan 2009 maps (2.2Gb download) though it still doesn't recognise the new M6 or my mother's estate in Galway which is 3/4 years old...
