Logic audio editing

So there I was about to use Logic for the next project I have coming up in February and I just find the Logic grid and audio editing features very slow and to be honest nowhere near as good as Pro tools. Can someone who has good audio editing skills within Logic please shine some light. I am looking for a few things so here we go:

    1. Cross fades and fades made easy and accurate
    2. The ability to remove silence
    3. The ability to measure my audio file accurately on the music timeline

I was using Logic over the holidays and had a blast. I recorded some vocals and just snipping and editing seemed hard to do. You would have to own the program to know what I am talking about. In Pro tools one can edit audio very quickly. I am know there are many in the audio community who feel the same that the audio editing within Logic has much to be desired. I would be generally appreciative for any help on this matter be it shortcuts or ideas.

    Regards
    Dav

im no logic expert but you should have snap set to smart.this might help for more precise cuts.
on the fades.in the inspector(the box on the left)you have the fade in fade out values and types of fade.
removing silence im not sure what you mean by that sorry

    Hi Dav
1.crossfades are great on logic. One quick method after doing edits on a track is to select all regions then in the region parameters select the crossfade length and they will all crossfade. Or in the menu top right of arrange select crossfade. The crossfade length can be set in audio preferences.
2.Strip silence is featured. I don't use the default key commands but for me it is as simple as selecting the region then hiting "shift e"
3.Not sure what you mean but at the top right of arrange window you will see a music note symbol to the right of the bar/beats ruler. If you click hold this you can select time or bars/time.

Editing vocal takes is very cool on logic. Just keep recording using the same track and "take folders" will be created. When you have done several passes click the triangle on the top left of the region and the take folder will open. Click/drag the sections of each take you want and they will automatically crossfade. This will also work on a whole drum kit if you group the tracks in the mixer than select edit in the group settings.
Also if you select the scissors tool and click drag over a region it will scrub the audio (you will hear it slowed down as you move). Call me if you want to call over and I will show you LOTS of tricks for logic editing.

Hey Michael if I can call over some time that may suite you that would be excellent. I really want to learn how to edit audio within Logic, it would be a massive bonus, I would appreciate that so much, regards, D. I will call you.

    Thanks again, savage.:):):):):)

No doubt, I have seen Michael work before and you would need to video it just to sit back and watch what he is doing, it's like ping/pong bang bang if you get me... I am delighted. I was loving logic over the crimbo and then I just got stumped with the audio element. I was like 'what!' and 'come on:mad:'!!!

If Michael is up for it I will get a camera man down to the Trackimix studio?? He may not want to be filmed so we must respect that but it's a great idea. We could do a few video tutorials :)

Excellent that musical symbol on the top right is what I was looking for! Now I have time and beats mapped out like Pro Panties.

The default key command for strip silence is Crtl (X) when I apply the strip silence nothing changes I must be modifying the thing wrong.

I have modified the fades on the left and I must admit that is FAST

I recently stumbled upon a great free application for taking video of your computer screen. It's at http://store.shinywhitebox.com/home/home.html
Could be just the thing for trackmixstudio to demonstrate some of his Logic tricks. wink.gif We would all appreciate that I'm sure. I'll certainly be using it for various teaching duties in the New Year.

can i ask a midi related logic question here, since theres a thread and all?

basically im using a project mix i/o as my audio interface and an m audio oxygen 61 as my controller keyboard. i havent looked into this in any great detail so im sure theres a blatantly obvious answer staring me in the face, but how do i route the midi output from logic to go through the project mix and out into my external gear?

in cubase (which im used to) it was just there, clear as day, so you changed the output in the dropdown menu and away you went. im sure its there in logic too, i just dont know where to look and i hate using pdf manuals, theyre a hinderance more than a help

so yeh, basically whats the general straight forward way of changing midi routing for a midi track on the sequence page?

    cheers

worked out my issue with very little brain expenditure as it turns out lol

well, i say worked out, the problem is actually something different entirely. my waldorf blofeld simply isnt being listed in the external midi library in logic, despite it being present in the audio/midi setup in utilities on the system itself

protools can see it fine, but for some reason logic just refuses to acknowledge its existence. anyone come across anything like this before?
