Well have spent most the morning going through the next 4 months doing up my training plan. At the moment i've not set any target time for the Marathon but going on McMillan I would be hoping to go sub 4 with a bit to spare.

I would idealy like to go sub 3:42 as its a time i would love to beat.

During your Marathon training are you picking your target time and training for that or training hard and just see how your going closer to the day.

I would be looking at an 8 mile race 2 week prior to the Marathon to set my target is this too late.

I think it is a bit too late, I know the few who did the Berlin marathon raced a month before hand in the Longford half marathon, sure 2 weeks before your marathon, you should be tapering but don't mind me if you remember I raced xc the week before Dublin marathon and also did a 1/2 marathon the week before Berlin and a 10 miler the week before Longford :D
As far as pacing goes for training, I've decided to concentrate on HR for the first few weeks but after the Dungarvan 10 I should have a better idea of were I'm at, you could do something similar, I would think you have sub 3:40 in you as I would think we're not a million miles away from each other.

Well the race 2 week prior will be an 8 mile tempo run , not going to be too crazy. I made that mistake before by playing a football match 2 week before a marathon.

I didn't set a target time for Dublin '08. I hadn't felt like I'd done enough training and was feeling quite down about it all. So just went into it thinking I was going to enjoy my day and see how it went. Ended up cutting almost 40 minutes off my time from '07(which probably goes to show how badly I did in '07 as opposed to how well I did in '08 :pac: ). So I think I'm going to stick with not setting target times and see how it all goes. :D

I did a 18 mile run two weeks before Dublin too.

Thanks, I think i'd like to set a target to push me along. I find i train better/ Harder when i'm focused on a goal.

I'll prob do the Larne half marathon in march and then take if from there. If i can go sub 1:50 for that then i'd be happy... Long way of my pb for a half of 1:37 ( First half of Chicago ) i think that counts as a pb..
