Looking for feedback from anyone that played in the Crowne Plaza over the weekend.
Obviously there were well documented problems before the festival and they have been taken on board by the organizers, really just looking for feedback from the weekend. Cheers.

Played Day 1B until about half 11 last night.
    Enjoyed the structure.
Pity numbers were so poor but alot of that may be down to time of year and already documented issues.

If lessons are learned from the tournament, before & during then I see no reason why it can't be a good annual event.

Look at the IPO and what the guys have done with it from year 1 to year 2 (no comparison).

    Good Luck Guys!

very well run tournament and the standard of dealing was very high and floor very efficient. I couldnt see any hitches myself.
To a lesser extent if i can be picky i think more use could have been made of the models and those two leprechauns as they seemed to have no direction so seemed like they were skulking around(like me but i wasnt being paid!) but maybe they were busy doing stuff that i didnt notice. I didnt see any intercation between them and the players which would have been nice. I did notice them doing some pictures with floor staff at one stage though.

There were a few on the cash table which were more than happy to donk their chips away - over aggro with no idea of bet sizing or hand reading. Free money IMO. Some of them were a bit flakey about the rules of the game - I saw a bit of slow playing and they were speaking alot of french at the table. luckily enough the dealer spoke french and was translating for me.

As for the tourney - nice structure. I would've prefered more players but not to worry. It was nice to put faces to the names of alot of boardsies. Nice venue. It would've been nice to be able to booze at the table. ANd maybe a bit more of a 'festival' feel wouldn't hurt. HAving the nice looking birds doing something a little more constructive might be nice.

Wp to Bru and The Clamper and to Bohsman for the updates.

i think that this was superb value for a 200e tournament. I am glad bru took the suggestions on board regarding inserting extra levels and making it a 60min clock and because of that, I throughly enjoyed it a lot more than i have with the initial structure with the 90min clock.

As i mentioned in the other thread, promotion and advertising are areas that need improvement. I think you need to look into having feeder satellites for no less than say 5 bucks. Also you need to make more ticket only satellites, rather than package satellites which i did not see the attraction in.

Accepting laser would definitely help, esp as i imagine you would want players to register online.

All in all, great tournament and great value, certainly no complaints from me. Well done.

The actual tournament itself was great. I have no qualms with it at all, good structure, dealers, venue everything. Pretty much all of the flaws are related to promotion and the numbers and so on. If you fix those then the next one will be fantastic.

Ban the french spewtards from leaving the cash tables.

I didn't play the tourny but I played plenty of cash and the tourny seemed smooth and well run from what I could tell. Structure seemed good too. Apart from the lack of numbers seemed fine to me. Crowne Plaza was a good venue too.

i actually thought the numbers were pretty good esp around xmas. there isnt many live tournaments that get over 100 runners.

Also enjoyed it so well done to the organisers. Venue was really nice and great deal secured on the hotel rooms there for a 4 star hotel.
Only real complaint would have been the temperature in the room on both days I was playing. Got quite chilly sitting around the table all day. Also a few more quality starting hands on day 2 would have been nice ;)

my biggest issue was that yet again in a tourney they didn't supple me enough chips to last to the second day... I ran out half way through!! :p

On a serious note I thought it was excellent run tourney... I think combining the starting days would have helped the atmosphere when it was appartant that the numbers weren't coming as promised..

In hidsight a 25 k gtd would have kept everyone happy in the very beginning. I think it actually was and got changed but I'm not sure on this..

Well done on transparancy and excelent structure

    Dealers: Top Class

Tables: The "lip" in the middle of them caused the dealers a few problems

    Models: Class

Leprechauns: Added to the festive feel.

    Starting Stack: Perfect.

    Blind Levels: Excellent.

    TD / Floor: Very Professional

Chips: eh, the stickers were a bit cheapish

    Venue: First Rate.

fantastic venue, well run, good dealers, pity about the numbers.
No complaints really only for one thing....I play a lot of tournaments around ireland during the year and this was the first that didnt offer some sort of refreshments/finger food/dinner at the break. not sure why this was but it seemed a bit strange to me.
Anyway, good job lads....see yall next year ;)

    Hi Guys

Thanks for the consructive reports etc, all points taken as given and will be taken on board, thank you

Congrats to the splitters Mr Cooke and Mr McAllister, who split 1st and 2nd €9500 betwen them as 7k each and a bonus for the dealers, nice 1

Mr McAllister told me that he didnt have a whole lot of heads-up play behind him and felt that Rob was a super player, so thought better of trying to beat him up and/or take him down, so a deal was in the offing and he was delighted to be declared the winner and split the cash for 1st and 2nd in what i thought was a very generous deal all thing being considered as i had seen him play for a while and didnt see too much wrong with his game, though he seemed nervous, he has a great feel for whats going on in the game and i had him down as a possible winner from way out

Rob played out of his skin but then i have seen him play well in the past and wasnt really surprised to see him do so well,

Steven also made a great showing and seemed very relaxed throughout, super reader of situations several times and took down pots that had been heavily bet and raised with a mega re raise, great and brave play

well done lads, standard of play was generally very high, though i did see many a mad hand that involved French players, man them guys are crazy

Ciaran (main man behind the Irish Deaf poker society) did himself proud and played extroardinarily well, nice guy, very good player, went a bit on tilt at the finish but rallied his game back on track for a great finish, getting a difficult choice call to go out of the event, hard one to call if you ask me and of course he was beating himself up a bit afterwards, but still made the other players respect his game, Rob Cooke was completely positoioned by Ciaran and Ciaran used it to his advantage very well, one player to watch out for in the future, wd Ciaran

lots of players asked me if we would refrain from inviting the French next time, hard to read and making moves like there is no tomorrow, probably watching too much challenge tv and making short handed moves while there were 9 players at the table, hard to play against and i saw that 1st hand as i decided to have a bit of craic and play the last day side event, ending up with 6 french of the final 10 and realised early on that the only chance i had at taking them out would be with counter thrusting their madness with some of my own and that worked out just fine, knocked them out 1 by 1 and made some mad moves and crazy calls, the poor guys didnt know what was going on and gave them a taste of Irish Mad cap play
once they were out of the way i did a 3 way chop with a Polish guy Miraslav(sponsored player who was nicknamed by Mad Marty as Mr No-Eyes since he never removed his sunglasses all day) and Kathy (Mad Marty's missus) a lovely lady with a super mind for poker
the Polish guy had so few chips at that stage that he nearly took my arm and all when i made the offer for a more or less equal split between us, leaving a few squid for the dealers, i thoroughly enjoyed the craic with Big Mick G making the final table

well done to Aiden McAlister and Rob Cooke, congrats to you both

I would like to take this opportunity to thank
1, the players, without which there would be no tourney, all very well behaved
2, the dealers, all very professional and yet relaxed and seemed to have fun
3, JP who was originally meant to be assisting TD but with so few players, he was left to it, 138 players is a walk in the park for that man, well done
4, Gareth and Toby, Cash game managers and also did some TD work, great guys to work with, thanks
5, Danielle (Kimba) who did her usual with the dealers, managing them and organising the smooth running and transition of dealers throughout the event
6, Rob, Phil, Kruawan, chip and cash managers, keeping the flow going very well as per their usual standard, maintaining the chips and cash in their usual strict but relaxed manner, finding time to make sure dealers were well watered with soft drinks and kept the tea coming for Danni throughout, well done
7, OSCAR, blogging and updates throughout the event in his usual factual and speeak easy manner, nice one Oscar
8, The Leprechauns and Nice girls doing what they do best, basically Leprechauning about the place
9, Debra, another lovely girl seen in the final mix-up with players getting their cash and having photos for posterity taken
10, The Hotel staff, who were supportive and helpful, making the venue work out quite well

The Hotel is well placed to host poker tournaments, we managed a great deal and upgrade for the dealers from next door to the Crowne Plaza for a more pleasant experience
unfortunately it was an extremely cold weekend and every time someone opened an outer door the cold flooded in, making it nigh impossible to keep the room heated, personally i was ok, but saw players near the door looking for body warmers and jackets, this wont be happening again, sorted with the hotel for future reference.
for whatever reasons, players didnt turn up in the numbers i expected, maybe its to much a family time, maybe its just too near christmas, not enough money, holidays etc etc, who knows?
someone suggested i advertise it more next time, well you can be sure i will however i did post posters and flyers to every card club and casino in europe, but maybe i didnt do that with enough notice, anyway plenty of lessons learned as usual and it all bolts well for improving even further for whatever tourney i do next time

i played in a looney tune dealers choice madness game with some French guys and Sarah from the Jackpot
here is a list of games
    holdem
    omaha
    5 card omaha
5 card omaha with double flop
cor chevalle, some french mad game
    5 car stud
5 card stud-no lookig at the hole card until betting was complete
    7 card stud
    hi-lo 7 stud
and much more madness with some huge pots
    great craic

i picked up a nice few squid and gracefully bowed out about level, i was constantly keeping my eyes on the tourney and everything else in the room, so playing became too much to do aswell

all in all i was happy with the event, would have loved to have loads more players, was flooded with emails of "regret cant make it" for all sorts of reasons but then thats how it is so i just accepted it and tried to make it the best for those that were there

Mad Marty was rgailing players at his various tables with funny stories and has the capacity to be non offensive and yet very funny, his world muct be a strange place to be, i enjoyed him though and at one stage got a stitch in my side from laughing and had to walk away from him

he did commentary live at the final table and made it very entertaining indeed

Thanks to eveyone who attended, i was delighted to see you all and look forward to meeting up again at whatever tournament i do next

    HAPPY NEW YEAR

    Derek

a so called friend of mine who knows i am epileptic, sent me a red strobe light for christmas
i had a fit when i saw it
