Is Setanta available on Sky here in Ireland?? I currently have NTL but think their service is rubbish and the only reason I have not moved is because I am subscribed to Setanta for the Celtic games.

It is available, but its a seperate subscription - you take your contract out with setanta rather than sky, you should check with them, maybe your current contract would still do.

I would think that if you do change, just ring Setanta with your sky details and they should be able to switch you over - easy when you say it, but these companies like to make life complicated.:D Good Luck

so its gone up 2e a month here then? Thought it would have come down with the exchange rate. I barely watch it now. Think its time to cancel.

I want to subscribe to Setanta but don't have a sky box. For my own convenience - and also to save having to shell out on a sky box - I want to access it from my existing (non sky) box.
Do they still issue cards for use with other boxes or does it all have to be done through the dreaded sky box? Reason I ask is that I went to their subs page and its asking me for a 'viewing card no'??

Rang there just now to cancel.
She asks me why?, I says the price difference.
She transferred me without question to cancellations, only to be told that office closes at 6.00.
    I'll be ringing again tomorrow.

So I'm ready to take out a sub but they won't or can't take my money...
Yet to decide if I will go to any further bother but do I just need any old box? Does it need to have an activated or deactivated card in it??

As long as you've a Skybox and a Sky card, you're set. You'd need to know the details of the person who "owned" the deactivated card, I think.

    Thanks for that byte.
Will try and get my hands on a slybox then. Anyone here got one gathering dust by any chance?

Have sourced a second hand box but present owner has no idea as regards who originally registered the card. Is there a way of sorting this out??

I dunno if they'll activate teh card without you knowing the details, but no harm in trying I guess...

All you have to do is ring Setanta and give them the viewing card number. No other information is needed from you apart from obviously your bank account details! If the card happens to be paired to that particular box you will get their full package , if not, you will get all their channels except for Racing UK.
This comes from my own experience with them.

I'm now looking forward to at least six live FA Cup matches on Setanta this weekend!

Forgot to mention that when Sky change the viewing cards, not knowing the original card user may be a problem in you actually getting the new card.So getting the name/address of that person may be useful long term.

Thanks for that widescreen. Is there any system in place for getting details reregistered - even if I don't have current reg details??
By all accounts, a card change is supposed to be due in the not too distant future..

Unless you have the current details there is no chance of getting the card re-registered in your name and even if you did have them there is still no guarantee. I am in the same boat as you. I believe cards are due for a change in April/May. I am enjoying Setanta for the minute and if/when the card doesn't work I will have to come up with a solution!

I think the only way out of it is to contact setanta - tell them you want to cancel - when they ask why - tell them. They might pull their fingers out and send a setanta card at that point. Of course, would be in the lap of the gods as to whose on the other end of the phone. The two call centre staff I spoke to all denied that setanta had the ability to send out sat cards...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Eurorunner

Just tried Setanta again and they tell me that I can get a generic sky card from any electrical shop. That simply isn't the case is it? I asked her if she was sure this applied in the south (their call centre is in norn iron).
Even if it does apply in the north, can i simply stroll in and ask them for a card?

That is worth a try. Obviously, if you don't have a card, you can't be a customer and they lose out on a valuable subscriber. I have seen one or two previous posts where people have got cards from Setanta but they seem to be the rare exception.

    Lads,

I have the Sky basic package and have had all the setanta channels since last March. Haven't even received a bill for them and I never requested them in the first place. They just showed up one day back then. I also had the full Sky Sports package before and must admit in fairness to Setanta their sports channels are far superior. The soccer pundits are much better aswell. Happy days:D

Wait till you get the backdated bill ;)

All those commentators are crap anyway. I only want Setanta to watch Celtic so Sky sports is no use to me.

I am very tempted today to sign to Sky as the HD box is now available at half price.

One question. If you record to the sky box can you then copy it off the box by USB or the likes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,430 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

    Why Antrim Man,

Did this happen to you and did you get a backdated deal. I won't be paying it becasue I never requested it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,393 ✭✭✭Eurorunner

My god, usually its me thats the force of greatest resistance when spending €€ :D ....never found it so hard!

Right, I've found someone selling a box in the local rag - has deactivated card, has registration details - but says that there are unpaid bills associated with the card?? Where the hell does that leave me! Will I be able to rereg this card so that sky will send me out a new one when the time comes (ie. when they change cards later this year)??

2 different services. Setanta Sports 1 in Ireland in different to Setanta Sports 1 in the UK and there is more sport shown with an Irish account. But I do agree that it shouldn't be as high as it is.

If I cancel my sky sub, will the setanta sub stay active?

Skysports 1 or 2 = Minimum price €41.00 per month.
Skysports All channels Minimum price €52.00 per month.

    Setanta - €21.99 per month.

The sky prices include getting one mix & free bonus mix which is the minimum package you have to get..

I sub to Skysports 1(+ minimum mixes) and Setanta.

Ok give me the english version!!! I rang up and questioned them about it today and they didnt even give that answer...They couldnt give me a valid answer. If they were stocking a physical product i could understand ie Products purchased over the last few months at the higher rate.

They Irish customer is simply being screwed by an Irish company.

They have 1 less customer from today!

Why is it a disgrace. Setanta in the UK is rubbish. You only get half the games and half the channels ? No 3 o'clock games.

There is a major difference in content between Setanta in the UK/NI and ROI.
No 3pm Live EPL in the UK/NI
You dont get Setantas 4 weekly Champions league games in the UK/NI
You dont get Setantas UEFA cup Matches in the UK/NI
You Dont get all of Setants FA cup coverage in the UK/NI

So you are not comparing like for like im afraid.
