Hi everybody. I just got a rabbit for christmas and wanted to bring her to a vet to get her checked over. I don't know of any vets that specialize in rabbits though. I was just wondering could anybody help me out? Thanks :P

I jsut bring my rabbit to my normal vet, they should be able to see her they are not just for dogs.

    Where are you based?

There is a vet in Bray that specialises in rabbits, birds, and exotics. I haven't been to them yet, but my friend went their when her parrot broke it's leg and highly recommended them.

I just went to my local vet though when I got my rabbit neutred. In Bray I think it's around €125 as they keep the rabbit in overnight, which is especially recommended if you have a nervous rabbit. My rabbit has no problem with change, or even young hyperactive children, so I took him to the Arklow vet who do it as a day case and it was €75.

For a general check up, I would check the golden pages and ring around for a local vet that will see a rabbit. If you are neutring a nervous rabbit or if it becomes ill, I would take it to Bray.

I had my rabbits neutered at the Veterinary Hospital, Kilmantain Place, Bray. They received really excellent treatment - it was well worth the fee. I had to go elsewhere for a while because once or twice I was stopped from bringing my rabbits on the train, but now that I've got my driving licence I'll be going back to Bray with them.

Congratulations on your new pet! Your bunny will need vaccinations against myxomatosis and V.H.D. and it is a really good idea to have your bunny neutered. Your bunny should also be wormed. Not all vets are familiar with bunny care so it's important to chose a vet with an interest in rabbits. There are some great tips on chosing the right vet for your bunny, as well as info on neutering your rabbit, here:

Yeh, def. go with a vet that has experience with rabbits and when neutering/spaying it's very important that you choose a vet that knows their stuff.

I bring my rabbit to Anicare. They have a branch in fairview/clontarf. Its facing Marino healthcentre beside graingers pub. They are very good.

Our bunnies go to the Sandymount Pet Hospital. They're not rabbit specialists or anything but the vet we see there has worked with a lot of small animals in the past and was confident enough to take our two on.

He even rang me when the older one came around after being spayed to let me know everything was ok.

Monkshee Limerick Animal Welfare have their bunnies neutered and there's other smallies they take in as well so if you contact them they should be able to put you in touch with the vet they use.
