hi everyone, ok so planning a j1, more than likely to new york. we've missed the usit free j1 thing deadline because some of our group hadnt decided etc.
im quite confused about the j1 and how it works, mostly relating to booking it.

weve missed the free j1 offer on usit but ive just been on go4less and apparently their j1 is free all the time? or am i missingsomething?

wats the procedure like- do you go into them, or apply for a form or wat?
and wat about interviews?

wats the first step?

do they all have dealine dates for booking flights like usit does (sometime in jan)...

wats the best j1 provider?

is sayit any good? or go4less?

do we just fill out some form, but do we need to book flights soon or wat? im so confused....

are they all the same procedure as usit- fill out form, book flights within a week...

also any opinions regarding new york as a destination?
and any tips?

sorry for long post thanks so much in advance...

Aine

Go4Less have there's for free all the time, they might say there's deadlines but they're just trying to rush people into paying, they'll keep extending it.

Go here: http://www.go4less.ie/J1Reg/NewReg.asp and you and all of your friends need to register separately and fill in whatever they ask you for, there's lots of paperwork but it's all pretty much straightforward.

You'll have to book your flights soon enough (maybe before Feb) so be prepared for that, in all you'll have to pay them around €1,000 by then for everything. It doesn't really matter which sponser you use, they all work with the same US compan so it's al the same.

New York is pretty great to be honest, you'll love the city an everywhere around......try get out to Long Island.

ok its making much more sense to me now. read all the terms and conditions etc. so it says below flight deposit in by 9th jan and flights to be booked by 21st jan. now ive a problem.. boyfriend as of yet has no passport, hes goin in today to get it, should get it in two weeks with that fast track thing. my question is, is this 21st january thing set in stone? after that is it undo-able? wats the lee-way.. is there any way around this deadline in case he doesnt get the passport in time.\

terms and conditions below

"Stages 1&2 on the online J1 account must be completed before 9th Jan 2009.
ii) The deposit of only Eur39 can be paid by credit card, cash or cheque and must be paid at the time of the J1 registration. If you register online and
choose to pay by cash – payment must be done in our office at 30 Lr. Abbey Street, Dublin 1, within 10 working days from the time of J1 registration.
iii) Embassy fee, Sevis fee & €100 flight deposit must be paid as a part of the Application Appointment or by 9th January 2009.
iv) J1 Flight Must be booked only on your J1 online account & by 21st January 2009 but only after application appointment completed.
v) Final Balance must be paid by the 20th March 2009.
vi) FREE J1 2009 Massive SALE will end on the 18th of December 2008 or while places last. "

last year i didnt even start my application till end of febuary and i had everything sorted in plenty of time to leave the end of may including a free j1 so i guess i didnt book my flights till around march

think that was with sayit it defo wasnt usit so it was either sayit or go4less

edit just read your secoond post properly maybe i did pay the deposit in january and just forgot about it i dont think so though

Sorry Guys for jumping in here. I'm new to boards.ie and I don't how to start a thread. So I thought the best way to get info on my problem was to jump into a similar conversation.

I want to go on a JI this year before I finish collage. I was thinking Miami. Do you anyone who has gone there? I will need to work when I get out there.

Is it easy to get Jobs in America with the whole global town turn? In terms of accommodation how much does it cost. I'll have about €1200 - €1500 when I get over there.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
