I feel kind of ashamed of myself now for watching this (and where better to confess my sins but on Boards :p) and feel a bit like someone who's gorged on Black Forest Gateau. I wonder though will a show like this be made for Christmas 2009?

Its funny how Nadine from Girls Aloud works so hard for the last 5 years and earns a couple of million and then this other guy wins 9.4 million on lotto overnight and is way richer than her.

The figures on that show were plucked from thin air ,there were gross inaccuracies.

I didn't see the show, but were they net worth figures, or earnings for the last year?

That statcounter fella certainly has to be worth more than the €2m I believe they pegged him at, for example. I saw another general internet entrepeneur list that valued him at 18m..but again, that may have been plucked out of thin air too.

In fairness that's not bad for just wearing skimpy outfits and standing on stage singing catchy songs already written for you ;)

A million quid for five years work for months at a stretch without time off, touring and 20 hour days is hardly good going.

If you're replying to my post, she got a couple of million. Yes I would call that good going considering she didn't actually write any of the songs. She is a doll, the five of them are. They are told what to do and when to do it and they get paid damn well. Girl Power

I loved the way that this show and the other show of a similar topic recently shown on RTE always points to every second one of the rich peep's 'wise investments in property'. I can only assume that both programs were recorded prior to Aug 2008.

Only caught a bit of this - anyone know if it's repeated or viewable online?

Would be interested to know the source of that 18m valuation of the statcounter fella.

Think it was recorded earlier in the year. My editor was one of the talking heads.

Okay..let me break this down.Bands like Girls Aloud would normally work an 18 hour day..be that recording, rehearsing, performing, promoting, opening, appearing, endorsing etc etc.
This would go on for literally years before they see a penny profit, they'd usually be on a pocket money of circa 300 per week.
Now.If they cut an album..lets say the CD costs £10 sterling retail..The Record label takes 15 percent for "packaging".Packing will only ever cost a maximimum of 5 percent so thats 10 percent straight off.The remainder of the tenner is divided up between the label, the publisher, the distributor, the retailer and the artist.
The artist then has to give 20 percent to his or her manager and if there's more than one(like in girls aloud) they have to divide that amongst themselves.
So,out of £10,£1.50 is packaging, then the retailer takes about 30%,the distributor takes 9%,the publisher around 6%,the label gets 30 % and the artist gets around 10%.
In the case of a five piece band like girls aloud they would make a quid per CD,minus the 20% the manager gets which comes to 80p.Divide that by 5 and each of the girls will pocket 16p per CD sale!!!
IF they wrote thier own songs they would also be entiteled to 50p royalties between them per song.
Also ALL of the expenses come from the gross profit..costumes..make up,food etc etc.
Thats assuming CD sales..downloads are taking over as the normal way to promote music and the profit margins on them are even more miniscule!!

All of their songs are No.1s or at least in the Top 5 when they're released. And judging by the amount of tv performances they do aswell I wouldn't worry too much about Girls Aloud.

Your theory may apply to the average girl band but not Girls Aloud who I was referring to.

It's true that your family is living off the interest / profit earned from a gold bar stored in the bank?

Which is it? Interest or profit?

Which bank pays interest on gold bars or how do you make profit from storing a gold bar in a bank?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭wampyrus77

And it's very obviously keeping you and your family so happy that you have to dredge through boards on a friday night to dig up five year old threads?

Enjoy the gold but be quick as the price is dropping quicker than your status in Howl At The Moons on a Friday night.

Also with a 1 kg gold bar being currently worth less than US$43000 your family must be rather poor if all of you are relying on interest payments from one gold bar.

I suggest you and the family visit your local social welfare office to see what is available.I would imagine your monthly income would increase ten fold.

Do you get interest payments on gold buillon stored in banks? I would have thought that they would charge you to store it.

They would the only way to make money on it is through a broker who stores it for you.
But if you are coked off your head like certain people that believe they own gold then go to the internet and boast about your imaginary wealth.
