Any suggestions for places to run in Cork

I'm running the Edinburgh marathon in May, just wondering if any runners in Cork can recommend good places to train. I have a few runs already but i'm looking for more variety. Ideally the runs would be on flat ground with good enough lighting, and be about 5 miles or 2.5 and back in a route.

    Cheers

I'm not a runner anymore, but I trained for the Cork City Marathon a couple of years ago and found mapmyrun.com to be very helpful for routes-you can search for routes that are already on there (there are over 600 between 1 and 5 miles in Cork!) or map a new route yourself. It can show the elevation stats for the route too (on the right of a route map there's an option to turn it on or off) if you want to look for flat runs.

I found a really nice area to run was on the old railway line and the marina area, it's a nice flat area and pretty too, not well-lit though...

Take a look at the eagle AC site. They have put up a few run plus descriptions. Under "Training >> Where to run in Cork" there's about a dozen runs described.

When I'm in Cork I do the Lee road / Straight road loop but I wouldn't do it at night. There's a good stretch without any lighting or footpath.

I also head up around Knocknaheeny/Churchfield but it's hilly.

From Douglas you could try a short trip to Carrigaline and run down the Crosshaven walk. Very flat and fast.

That is my favourite run. 7 mile circuit.
But as Orbasa said, there is a sizeable stretch (2 miles?) without a footpath and all of the Lee Rd. is unlit.
