I regularily see cars driving around on unidentifiable or out of date reg. plates.
eg. German export plates that are years out of date , another one I've seen for the last year is a blue US size, French style letter 49-2334 on it, no country id or anything on it.How can AGS actually know if the out of state regs are genuine or not.

And taxis - stories abound of duplicate taxis being driven at weekends, certain people are cloning taxis so UJ is driving taxi Green Avensis #56789 reg no 00D 345678 out in Tallaght, and his cousin (UJ also)is driving taxi Green Avensis #56789 reg no 00D 345678 in Swords. If they get an out of area job, they phone each other to make sure they don't cross paths, and if there's a problem the other clones vanish off the road for the night. Cities such as London and Paris have 'fake cab' problems, so who's to say it isn't easier to do here? How's the Garda on checkpoint to know whats real or not ?

Sometimes you can just tell a dodgy cabbie. Call it instinct.
