Has anyone tried using Boxee yet?
Video of the features can be seen here. It was a closed alpha but they appear to be opening up accounts now (registered interest on Christmas day and got the invite yesterday). Very similar to Plex with the difference being the direct integration of the main US online channels e.g. Hulu, CBS, Comedy Central.
Of course when I initially installed, I couldn't watch any of the US only content, however I came across this Free VPN App and installed it on my imac and can now access the US only content.

Can also be installed on AppleTV, instructions can be found here.

    Well worth the download!

I've been using it for a few weeks and it mAkes the AppleTv so much more useful. I use it to watch Avi movies without having to re-encode all my stuff to iTunes formats. I must check out your Vpn idea though sounds good!

Boxee is pretty buggy but it's moving to Beta in jan so it will get more stable

it would be great if that VPN was UK based, then I could watch the BBC iPlayer

I had a lot of hassle putting it on the Apple TV, though I might give it another shot. I ended up having to do a factory restore to make the console useable again.

Use the signup link on the righthand side of the page I linked to in the first line of post. An invite should be sent when available.

Actually just noticed I have an invite available in my account. Pm me your email address and i'll send on the invite.

It's fairly buggy. It keeps crashing on me and I had to force shutdown once. Not very usable at the moment but it's kinda cool and would be really nice if all the flaws were ironed out.

All you have to do is plug the USB key into the port and let it install? Give it another go(btw the writting on the screen doesn't change for a while but install should be done in under 10 mins).

Must check out the VPN app. Does it work on appletv or only when running it on the mac?

Dont have an AppleTV but is it possible to install the Hotspot shield on a mac or windows machine and connect the AppleTV using ICS on the Windows machine or the mac equivalent of ICS using an adhoc wireless network?

Oh ok. Bit of a hassle though and the whole idea behind me getting the appleTV was so I don't need the laptop running. May install boxee on th laptop too though.

VPN hack does not work on Apple TV
http://code.google.com/p/atvusb-creator/ is where you want to go to get the usb key to crack the apple tv.
You need to partition your usb with a GUID partition format with a single hfs+ partition in disk utility. note it will wipe your thumb drive.

    plug out apple tv
    plug in usb key
    plug in apple tv
    wait for 3 mins
    plug out apple tv
    plug out usb key
    plug in apple tv

dont do it twice as it will feck it up
