    Hi,

Im having a problem with my broadband connection. I have esat bt (3Mbit/sec) broadband. Im living in the dublin area.
My problem is that every now and again, I cant access any webpages. My connection is not down though because the 'dsl' light on my zyxel modem is on. What is more strange is that, when it happens that i cant access any webpages, even if im downloading, lets say, a torrent using azureus vuze, that torrent is downloading at a good speed still. How is this?

Can anyone please please help me with this problem? Any suggestions are really appreciated as this is buggin the life outta me.

    Thanks

    Dan

have you tried capping your torrent d/l speed, try setting the max speed in vuze at 80% of your maximum download speed.

could your upload and download speed settings in your torrent program be affecting your internet surfing ??? , try limit your upload and download speeds a little bit and see does that make a difference.

does it happen even when you are not downloading torrents ???

also make sure your web browser is up to date with the latest version and try a different browser and see if you get the same problem.

do a full virus scan and spyware/malware scan also just to rule anything like that out.

Thanks for all your replies to my problem. I can confirm that even if a torrent is download below the max bandwidth I have, I still cannot access webpages. It cannot have anything to do with viruses, etc. as I have just recently formatted and reinstalled vista on my system, and yes I also had this problem before I decided to format and reinstall vista.
The problem of me not being able to access webpages also happens even if im not downloading anything in azureus vuze or even have azureus vuze open.

If you fill Your upload bandwidth You'll affect your browsing speeds, filling Your upload will also slow a torrent download, cap it at 80%. You'll be seeding even when Your not downloading, most torrent programs including Azereus set to upload to 1:1 which means You'll keep uploading untill You've uploaded as much as You downloaded. Learning how to use Azereus will solve Your problems

Ok, which browser and how are you connected to the modem, ethernet, usb or wireless?
the next time you have this problem open a command prompt and try the following, type ping 89.234.66.107 and see if you get a response.
Its possible that the prob may be related to your isp DNS servers. You could try and enter the DNS ip addresses in your connection properties.

Interesting that this is intermittant. Sounds like something to do with firewall as I am having a similar problem myself. Are you using IE or firefox? If you're just using one of them then try to download the other and see does that fix the problem. My IE wasn't working but I got firefox and it does - still haven't fixed my IE firewall problem though.
