    Hi,

Want to take the kids to Egypt in Feb. 5 and 6. They love snorkeling and I think a trip to the pyramids would make a good trip.

    Any suggestions.

    Is Feb to cold?

    M

    Bring a hard shell hat.

Seriously though, wear something that says your Irish - NOT English.
Carry your I.D. on you at all times.
...and definately stick to the main areas given the present Israel situation. Don't stray and don't let others tempt you to.

Don't go snorkling in the Nile, contains some weird flesh eating bugs.

sharm is great for water sports etc, and you can do a day trip to cairo from there for about €150 .

Getting shot up the sphinx is not to be recommended. Cheaper and safer to take out a National Geographic sub, or watch the Discovery Channel.

Since when do 5 & 6 year olds give a fúck about pyramids? Or Egypt? Or snorkeling for that matter?

I went out and seen that RTDH was the last poster in here and had to come straight back in.

I'm disappointed I was hoping to hear how the Pyramids are really base stations for aliens or something equally bizarre

But they are! Extreme fete (sp?) to build them in line with stars. Had to get more help than just the thousands of slaves who built them! Stargate film FTW

Here's some advice OP, you would want to be INSANE to bring kids to Cairo! I've been there 3 times and it is an impoverished kip. You are tormented by beggars from the minute you set foot in the city until you leave. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID is my advice...

I've alwasy been curious how some many tribes so far spread across the world all built pyramids for the gods.

Just draw a triangle on the bottom of a bucket of water and then periodically dunk your kids heads in it. Save €€€

I went and had no problems. My sister went (she had red hair - that didn't help) and for her, it was a nightmare.

I think you might want to reconsider the current timing at the moment though.

It is impoverished in some parts mostly countryside but besides that its a great place to go(Except in the summer with its 50+ Temperatures:eek:)

Avoid poor parts of the city or downtown and visit places like Zamalek or 6th October City.

Never got any hassle myself but then again my parents are both egyptian:p

I know your taking the piss but still anyone who wants to go try not to dress like a tourist or you will be scammed, harassed etc etc

Thanks to all for your advice. Not interested in too much hassle, will wait until the kids are bit bigger...going to find a bucket and a pen..

Falcon holidays have a holiday village in pharm which is brilliant for families. We went there in march and had a great time.

I was in Sharm in March and personally I don't feel it's a good holiday for young kids. They won't appreciate the Pyramids. Wait til they're older in my opinion. We didn't really see any kids in the resort or at any of the ruins while we there.

We spent two weeks in the Hilton in Sharks Bay, Sharm in October 2008 ... it was perfect for us (both mid 30's, no kids) There isn't really anything for kids to do in Sharm .. its more suited to adults who enjoy snorkelling, relaxing, food & drink.
We also took trips to Cairo, Luxor & Jordan ... fantastics trips, but not for kids. As someone mentioned, they are quiet poor, dirtly etc.. and based purely around historical sites .... On our trip to Cairo, an english couple had their 5 year old daughter with them .. she was misreable, hot, tired, cranky and didn't have a clue where she was .... its a long day for anyone, let alone a child ... we had to get up at 4am and didn't get back to our hotels until 10pm that night.

My advice, Eygpt is not a place to bring kids under the age of 15 ...
