Nice cheap clothes. A step above Penneys as in you can actually look good in the clothes.

It's a shame the amount of empty units in the TK Maxx centre. When you look at the old Matthews Centre & Academy St Centre & the Dunnes development you'd wonder who was going to locate in all these retail units. That was before any recession kicked in!
There's not enough shoppers in Cork to warrant all these extra retail spaces on top of the traditional high street. There's more demand for a multi-storey car park than anything else!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,544 ✭✭✭Hogzy

Cant forget about Blackpool where there is loads of retail space available!

Cheap looking agreed, but the quality of some of the jeans is as good if not better than the up market chains... And what with the "recessh" and all....

H&M in Limerick is good but not a patch on the selection of clothes that have in the German and Swiss stores

Yeah the H&M stores I have been in in the UK seem to be so much better than what's on offer in the Limerick store, like the clothes and quality seem to differ quite a bit. I was always a fan of it while I lived in the UK but not so much here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,422 ✭✭✭Tirabaralla

Sure H&M quality is nicer than Penney's but also the prices are higher.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 68 ✭✭lovemypinkhat

If it does end up coming to Cork, it better be slightly better than that shocking Limerick store. I've given up trying Irish H&Ms because they only get the utter crap stock. Give me Berlin or Stockholm with one on every corner, each one stocking completely different stuff to the last. Woop woo!

That'll be the problem, a bit like FCUK - we'll never get the good stuff - or more importantly the good cheap stuff

they do make some really good stuff though - especially if your in any kind of half decent shape

But i still think you can't beat outlets on the Continent, the likes that have out of season D&G and the likes - especially for presents - well worth saving up for if your more into cities then resorts when it comes to holidays

Remember Nothing says I love you like a pair of Gucci sunglasses

especially when they've been discounted to around €80

thats pretty much what i brother does. Goes to the US one every 1 year/year and half and buys huge amounts of clothes in all the outlets malls over there. Its worth it too cuz the guys clothes over here are fairly crap and expensive.

H & M are definitely coming to Cork. They'll be based in the new Academy Street development (along with Topman/shop). They have applied for planning permission to modify their unit in the new development.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 879 ✭✭✭flo8s967qjh0nd

    FYI
H&M are going into the Academy Street development. They are taking the first unit at the Crawford Gallery end of the Street....i.e. opposite Meadows and Byrne.

They are originally a French chain of clothes shops. They do female, male and kids clothing. Been 2 one of them n Nice and Paris before and they have several levels, cool out. If they were comin 2 Cork, theyd either be setting up shop n that new shopping centre thats being built on Patrick St (where Dunnes used to be) or maybe further up beyond Debenhams.Like, theyre a big store so they wouldnt be relegated 2 some back arse of a street.

Do they have real man clothes or is it all that skinny boy fashionable sh!te?

I need something to fit my girth ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,864 ✭✭✭MunsterCycling

Skinny boi sh!te as you call it mainly.

Most likely will have back water selection of clothes here same as Limerick as the Paris H&Ms have every selection known to Man & more to the point Woman!

That may be so but their Paris stores are a heck of a lot better stocked than any in Ireland

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,446 ✭✭✭miss_shadow

Been in H&M's in 6 countries, Ireland doesn't have a patch on any of them, we don't even have the same selection of basic t-shirts never mind the new collections!

H&M in Barcelona rocks, there are many different shops from La Rambla and Passeig de Gracia and in shopping centers all over Barcelona. Can get some really nice stuff in the Passeig de Gracia shop. Love the place.

They have pulled out. Know a guy working on the development. A few more shops have pulled out too since H&M have.

I hope not! Then again who would be insane enough to set up in this climate. Think there will be a lot of empty shops with the new cornmarket, academy and douglas village SC's. Cork will soon be a ghost town! Noticed a few closures in Mahon too

French? Where the hell did you get that from? Swedish my dear!!

Where do people get these rumours from? They are opening. Why else would they have ads on their own website looking for staff/managers etc for their new Cork store (see link below if any of you are interested in applying).

Good to see renowned international outlets opening and creating employment!

    H&M = Boring Swedish retailer.

Almost as boring and dull as Marks & Spencer. While consumers in France, Italy, Spain, Belgium etc kicked out M&S, forcing them to shut down, because their clothes were unfashionable and dull and their food was mostly unhealthy, over salted, fatty and full of sugar and other nasties, not to mention the food miles clocked up as virtually everything was trucked from Britain, H&M has survived sur le continent.

So I suppose H&M is only about 90% as boring, dull and bad as M&S.

One wonders when Cork will get some decent continental shops, like FNAC, Decathlon, Migros, Casino, LeaderPrice, etc?

Patrick Street has been taken over by dull, rubber stamped, low quality, British chain stores over the past few years. Peddling their rubbish at inflated exchange rates (eg GBP = 1.50 EUR!!!).

Patrick St now looks like any dull boring English city, complete with CCTV cameras everywhere. Minus the "Royal Mail" Post Office, for the moment. No doubt that will change too at the rate things are going...

I think it doesnt really matter what country h&m is in(well maybe the price), it will totally depend on what ranges the store decides to do.

Usually if the shop is in posher area they will concentrate on mainly having "woman's wear" if they consider it young and funky they will have the "divided" range which I am hoping for! or if its a big store they will have both...

I guess we will just have to c..my guess is divided!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 35 j2hig

I reckon divided too. If they are goin into the new shopping centre they could have a huge store. Look at the size of the new tkmaxx. And tkmaxx cork is the number one best store in the company at the minute. Maybe H&M are thinkin they can do the same

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 129 ✭✭baileyjackson

its well over 20k 2qft, must be pretty big. Im hoping for a comprehensive store. Cork needs it seeing as Dub has about 5 outlets

Applied online weeks ago. Say applications are closed now though, they had two days of interviews last week where people came over from London and other H&M stores!

H&M slated to open start of October.

    Dunnes expected to open mid-September.

Topshop/Topman have pushed back their opening until start of November.

MOre info on some of these should be available here (http://www.operalane.com/) shortly.
