I am sick of my old style inkjet printer. Quality is not the best. I was thinking of buying a laser printer, my son has a lot of college reports to print and the inkjet is just not up to the job. I've looked around on the net but haven't a clue what to go for. Something for around €200 or possibly less with the sales on.
    Thanks

Is color necessary or are you happy with black and white?

To give you a basic start, look here: http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/801/xx/xx/106/9/criteresn.html

Anything by Brother/HP at a cheap price is a good place to start.

Need to be able to print colour. Thanks Biggins, I'll have a look at that link.

You honestly can't go far wrong if you stick to the known brand names.

    Also look at: http://www.komplett.ie/k/kc.aspx?bn=10421

    All the best.

See if you can find an old HP B/W laser printer anywhere - try ebay? and keep an expensive to run ink jet for when you absolutely need colour.

I have an old HP LaserJet 6P, ancient or what, but I print out a lot of IT training material and with refilled toner units 3,000 pages costs me less than 30euro (plus of course the cost of the paper). I use an epson ink jet for any colour work.

I say get an old laserjet as many of the new ones are more expensive to get refilled carts for because there are simply fewer of them around to recycle.

Color laserjets tend to be a bit expensive on consumables and while you get more out of them than an inkjet all the color laserjets (HP) I have used would cost you around 300euros to replace all the cartridges. Lot less if you refill then yourself but few people refill there own colour toner cartriges.

Amazing the amount of HP LaserJet printers that end up thrown out on skips, they're built to last, and very heavy. I would go along with ttm, try and put a request in Adverts and see what gets offered. You'll need a car to transport it..

I suggest you do not buy HP Colour Laserjet , especially the one in which the toner cartridges are continuously moving around .

These printers are CYMK ( Cyan , Yellow , Magenta , and Black )

They also have an Imaging Drum which costs in the region of 150 euro to replace ............

So as stated above , to replace all cartridges cost well over 300 euro .

And you only get around 5,000 pages per cartridge ( based on ink coverage of not more than 5 % .

When you get these re-filled or indeed buy a compatible one other than an original HP , you will find some leakage , mainly due to the continuous moving of these cartridges .

Ah Argos, always a great place to check what the prices were when the catalog came out. Anthying they have that's a bargin will be out of stock and anyting that's in stock will be cheaper somewhere else.

Intersting example of IE/UK price comparisons ;) Wonder when/if they will change, my guess is the UK prices will go UP and the IE prices will stay much the same.
