To take the advantage in the event of a world economic recovery, what field should people be re-training. In what areas does ireland need to have expert workforce. In particular what should 40+ people be looking at to be able to realistically return to the workforce.

    Repo men.

But, being serious, if you're looking for information about retraining, you might want to try the work and jobs forum.

with my "green" hat on I'd say a general transition away from an oil based economy over the next 30/50 years. There are interesing developments in wind, wave and storage technology which may make Ireland a good base for R&D or plugging into some kind of Euro grid if such a thing is possible.

"Environmentalism is the political ideology of the future. That's were the money will be because states will buy into this whether they like it or not.(they'll have no choice because environmental sceptics are almost treated like mad Nazis as it is).Remember what the Irish green TD said about the czech President when he declared his skepticism about global warming. He was called a "global warming denier".That's the road were on I'm afraid.

Hi betonit. I'm afraid this is the sort of thing economists really don't focus on at all, and that's perhaps indicated by the few responses you've received here. I think I'm doing you a favour by firing this over to the Work/Jobs forum, the mods of which might have a better idea of the best location.
