Heading to the Big Apple for a couple of weeks on non-poker related business but wouldn't mind playing there. Anyone know the best places in NY?

As far as I know, Turning Stone is your only option. It's not in New York City though, more like a few hours away in New York State. Very impressive set-up there.

Atlantic City is about 2-3 drive away. I know in the Irish parts of NY there would be pub games.

Dara when are you heading over, I 'm flying over on the 31st for a few days before the Bahamas. Of course it's a pure greenwch village drinking trip so poker won;t be on da cards (pardon the pun)

If you have the time, i'd suggest checking out Foxwoods in Conneticut(about 3 1/2 hours from NYC). It's pretty epic and the games are uber soft and they played as high as 100/200 when I was there earlier this year.(I played 2/4 and standard was atrocious, as bad as if not worse then Dublin, spewy tourists everywhere).

I've heard Atlantic City is a ****hole, can't say the same about Foxwoods, amazing place.

You would get a game in one of the Irish bars in Queens or the Bronx !! While i was there 2 years ago i played a $100 tournament in a bar in sunnyside, Queens.

They played cash and sngs after aswell. It was a nice friendly social game went on until the morning. Unreal soft i made over 1k without even cashing in the tournament. It would be hard to find the information about these games you would have to do a lot of enquiring.

Went to Ac as well it was over 2 hours bus journey. I was happy enough with it at the time. In saying that i hadnt much to judge it against at the time.

Atlantic City is a depressing cold place, I wouldn't recommend it.

    Doke

I spent 3 years in NYC and went to AC alot - I liked the casinos. True, the city is a dump past the casinos/boardswalk but who cares ?

It takes 2 hours and 20 minutes to get there from Lower Manhattan - the cheapest way is to get the Tropicana bus from Canal Street in China Town. It leaves at 7am or so. It is $25 return and you get a free $20 bet for the Tropicana - make sure you get the token on the bus - it is NOT your bus ticket that gets you the bet - you need to exchange this for the token. (Actually the best bet is to rent a car but the Turnpike can be a nightmare if you're not used to driving in the US)

If you're going to play poker it is very good. The best room for value is the main room at the Trump Taj Mahal. The tropicana is OK but the standard is better than the Taj. The best room is the Borgata but the standard is good during the day but teeeerible at 1/2 at night. The room is worth going along alone - it is top quality.

There are great tournaments on in all the casinos every day all day and all night.

If you've got the money - stay in the Borgata. no question. Otherwise, all the hotels are all pretty similar - check hotels dot etc to get the best deal there.

There is a club on Pearl Street in Lower Manhattan near wall street - it's unlikely you'll be allowed in though. In 2007 there was a big crackdown on the card rooms, so it's hard to find a game in the City. Your best bet is to go to A.C. imo

    Enjoy !

So what do you use for your return bus ticket back to NY if you have to exchange it for the free $20 bet?.

The ticket you get is a 4 or 5-piece perforated ticket. One of the pieces is your ticket there, another is your ticket back, another is the $20 offer and another is a meal token. But it's not made clear to you that the ticket must be exchanged for a token on the bus. Obv. the thinking is that the section of ticket is the bet but it's not.
