I'm going to the range on Sunday with about 7 different types and brands of ammo to try out off the bench - 5 shot groups x 2 for each.
As all the rounds, 223, are copper can you just change ammo/brand without "shooting in" between a change over of ammo so to speak???
Just to see what groups the best.
At the moment it looks to be Rem UMC 50g JHP and Hornaday 53gr HP match that group the best in my CZ Varmint 223 with a 1 in 9 twist.

And what about cleaning the barrel out - how many rounds do I put down before running a brush and copper solvent through it?

I think from what I've read you can get away without cleaning between ammo types provided they're not coated (moly etc.) With that 1:9 twist, you should really try the heavier 60gr+ stuff if you can find it, again based on reading rather than personal experience. As to cleaning, no idea, but my smallbore regime is either every time I change ammo or when groups start to open up. Best of luck Clive, throw up a few photos, and see how it handles the 300 yard range.

Clive, every time you change the type of powder you use you should clean and run in the barrel on the new powder, as you wont know what powder the ammo producer is using then i would suggest cleaning and running in after you change from one manufacturer to the other, this allows the barrel to settle with the new powder.

Looks like I'll be in Midlands myself tomorrow lads, so say hello if you see a big, scruffy, tired-looking chap lumbering around the place eyeing up nice kit. ;)

I'll be the good looking old lad with the Tux and red rose in the button hole.

Or more than likely the 3 tone grey camo ski jacket and the CZ varmint.
Come on and say hello (please) :D

I thought it was my turn to wear the Tux and your turn to wear the ball gown!!! I'm the fella with the beer keg up his jumper and the eyes sunk to the back of his head.

Stiff enough breeze on the 600yd firing point for a while while I was there. It did shift around a bit too.

Good to put faces to names today, and thanks to everyone who showed off their shiny toys and made me want to spend even more money on this shooting lark! :D

(I'm surprised you didn't find me and throw rocks at me bunny! ;))

I was doing feckin' laps of the bull on the 600 yard point, think you may be right about the wind bunny. :p Nice meeting those of you I spoke to, and yeah, the nice kit is always good to see. May have something new myself to make smoke and noise with over the summer. ;)

Ya got to the 200m after and was hitting the 2" ring OK. I didn't think to give you a/1/one V-Shok to try out :D:D

Good to meet IRLConor and ItWasn'tMe there yesterday. Sorry not to let you have a bang of the varmint but I was between testing ammo and the targets were all set up for each type. Next time. :)

Thanks. :) When I had the Walther KK200 out I didn't see you around, I thought you had left, otherwise I would have found you to give you a go.

Connor, didn't know you were in attentance  You have me all wrong :o we may have our little disagreements here on the internet but that would have been real life so no need for rocks ;)

Clive worked out who you are but could see you were intent on your testing so will catch up with you another time ;) Your name was bandied about a fair bit :D and the accent is a dead give away :p

IWM the wind there is very deceptive at times but it does make us better shooters when chasing bunnies and charlie ;)
