Does anyone know where these rates are available. I've checked the revenue site but the earliest date is 2008.
    Cheers

Correct me if I'm wrong but VRT hasn't changed at all since last July and won't be changing for the forseeable future.

Thanks Madabout cars. Just wanted to be sure. Although by the time the VRT and VAT are added it's not worth my while travelling north for a new car, even with sterling at the rates it is.

90% of cars will be much cheaper up north at this stage with all charges paid. You will only pay vat here if you dont pay it on purchase in uk.

What car are you thinking about?

You are wrong, VRT OMSP's change frequently, monthly to weekly depending on make, model.

The OP asked if VRT rates have changed, and I answered his question to the best of my knowledge.

I know that OMSPs change all the time but that's not what the OP asked.

If the OP asked about OMSPs then I would have told the OP what you're after telling him, but he didn't.

the only thing that would change in 09 would be that the value of cars inc 08 and older would be lower (well hopefully)

I presumed he was referring to an updated VRT "charge" for 2009 (since he mentioned changing the year on the calc). You presumed he meant VRT precentages (of OMSP), only the OP can clarify.

To OP, the VRT charges will likey go down sometime in January to reflect the year change, they did last year.

Thinking of Honda Civic 1.4SE. I have a 06 civic and would not mind updating to a 09. If I decide to buy up north, I might consider the 1.8, the difference between the two is only about £2500. Whereas here the 1.4 is €21,750 + met paint and alloys and the 1.8 is about €25000 +extras. Up north the 1.4 se Sport comes complete, nil of vat price 12225.00 sterling. The 1.8 i-VTEC (Petrol) Manual £14,860.

The Revenue website is tailored for used cars, not new, hence no 2009 pricings. However, since the car you want to import is new, why would the OMSP be different to the SIMI pricelist ?

Are you sure you are going to save money ? Take the 1.4 pricing you give, and exchange rate in the bank at 0.93 or so, makes it 13145. Add VAT at 21.5% = 15,971. Assume OMSP is same as list price new, gives VRT as 16% of 21750 = 3480. Total is 19,451, excluding travel and hidden expenses. I don't know how much the Honda dealers have to play with, but if you are buying straight then you are going to get the car here for less than 21,750; possibly 20,000 ? Sounds like a lot of hassle to save 500 euro.

Also if you deal locally you can offload your 06 as a trade-in. Granted the price will not be discounted then, but a lot less effort unless you have someone lined up for your 06.

Most of the posters here are referring to importing used cars from UK, and the difference can be a lot lot more than 500 euro.

What might be a better option is to import a 08 one, or wait a few months and import a used 09 one, eg demo or pre-registered. Once you put 09-D or whatever on it, no-one will know if it is new or used !

    Thanks Sean,
You're right, its not worth the hassle for €500 plus the fact that I have to get rid of my 06. The prices on paper just make it look so tempting. Damn VRT
I am going to make a few visits to Dublin dealers next week and see what they are offering with mine as a trade in.

No worries, on reflection I think that what the OP meant to ask is what you told him:)!

Does anyone know how often Open market selling prices change on cars, Is it true that they randomily change the prices throughout the year and always change them in July and january?
