    Unluuuucky!

    Welcome to the club.

Not all of them are for the flag, especially Sundays, 100 euro, a roast dinner and Monday off....its not all bad.

Could be worse I suppose you could have been on the roof of the Hotel.

6-48 Christmas Eve and New Years Eve...think it was '98 was very drunk in between both.

We had an unwritten agreement that the singlies would do Xmas and the shackled would do new year. Worked ok.

Apart from the one cnut that never played ball - calling in sick... his brother is a major union figure, to their embarrassment...

I remember slagging all the lads in Lebanon who took over from us in Nov 83. The usual up your swiss you'll be here for Christmas, Paddy Day and Easter. When I returned to my Unit after UN leave I found myself heading for Portlaoise for Christmas. We did four days on and four off so nobody had to do both Christmas and the New year.

I remember those days too, putting Christmas tree's up for the winter trip lads and singing Christmas carols to them in Ben Gurion airport!.

As single soldier I used to volunteer for christmas duties. I used to do 1 day on and 2 off and after the two weeks break I used to get two full weeks off. So in fact used to get over 3 weeks over christmas.

I remember once guarding a bridge demolition in Canada for three days on my own as my unit forgot about me... that was fun without a sleeping bag and food 60 miles from the nearest civilisation.
