I have a couple of questions

    1. is there any website with a guide on how to replace the internal hard drive.

    2. where can I get the hard drives that are compatable with the ps3 and can I get one with between 320 - 500 gbs.

There are plenty of guides online - here's one:

But there are videos, etc on YouTube if you prefer something like that.

Any SATA 2.5" HDD should work fine, though you may want to stick to a 5400RPM as the faster 7200RPM ones may cause excess heat (but maybe not). Here's a 320GB:

    and a 500GB:

How would you get your game saves back on the PS3 afterwards? can you just save them onto a usb stick?

Assuming you have a spare external drive you can backup your current drive onto that, stick the new internal one in, and restore.

Does it keep all the updates, and programmes like Home, when you do it?

Yep, you can just use a USB stick - game saves are one of the main things that would be lost during a hard drive swap, so you need a backup before swapping the drives out.

It definitely keeps your system updates - not too sure about Home since I couldn't be bothered to install it but there's a good chance it would be preserved, since it is a system component. But other than the game saves, pretty much everything else can easily be re-downloaded anyway...
