    Hi guys,

Need urgent help here if possible.

I need to send a fax promptly. I have a Dell L400 laptop and Windows 2000 Pro.
I have a line out on my Laptop but how do I set up a fax on it?
I have looked in add-remove windows components, but can't seem to see the add fax option.

    Any help gratefully received.

    Merry Christmas.

In Xp I have fax terminal / console under accessories . Otherwise you could download a fax console from the internet and take it from there. Sometimes if you have scanner / printer softwear installed , it might have a fax console. Maybe microsoft will let u download fax console.

I think I have sorted it. I turned on the modem in bios setup options, it was disabled. I now have a fax printer showing.

I have done a document in Microsoft word and will try to FAX it in a while.

I'll let you know how I get on.

How do I get proof that it was faxed if I am successful?

    All seemed to go well...

Opened the document I wanted to FAX. Windows FAX came up and I input the number I wanted to send the FAX to. It started to dial and then gave a "no dial tone" error.

I used the socket that the phone is plugged into, with the filter and then without the filter, same thing.

its been a while since i was messing around with Fax on computers.
i seem to remember alot of problems with which COM port was setup. could try going into the properties of the fax modem and changing it from COM1 to others.
alot of hyperterminal testing is flooding back to me now :(

If you're still desperate and the fax is only 1 or 2 pages then drop me a PM and I can send it for you? Would just need you to email it to me as a PDF or whatever with the number to send it to!

Just realised that the "Phone line" option in "Sound properties" was muted. Think this may be the reason for the no dial tone error.

Thanks very much for the offer. It's 4 pages but I'm prepared to send you cost via paypal, in fact that's who the fax is to. Nice people send me an email on Christmas night and tell me I've got three days to fax them the info.
That's after letting the seller fart about for two weeks.

If it's proof of ID documents Paypal usually provide an option to upload these within your account.

If not, drop me a PM and I'll send it for you.

Proof of postage for a returned item required by fax. Plus a couple of extra bits like a letter from Anpost saying they are investigating the matter and their barcoded cover note.
Hope this facker doesn't get away with it. told me to return and never heard anything from him after that. Was for a PSP which worked for two days.

Can I PM you the Word.doc now?

if you are needing to receive a fax, your mobile service has the ability to receive a fax by adding a 5 in between the prefix and number making the call go directly to voicemail which then stores the fax for you. You then get a txt to say you have fax waiting. I'm on voda bill.
