"An eight-year-old girl who ran towards him was shot in the face."

Running to Santa.... The guy must have been really sick. How could anyone do that.

"Going Postal." It's funny because an 8 year old was shot in the face.

looks like santa has finaly cracked under the strain of his heavy workload

    http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2008/1226/breaking1.htm
Underplaying this one a bit, no?

I found it absolutely sickening. Just saw the news footage of the burning house: When he got there he rang the doorbell, and 8 year old girl answered and he shot her in the face :( After that he started firing indiscriminately at his former in-laws.
At least eight people have been killed after a man dressed as Santa Claus opened
fire at a Christmas Eve party in southern California.
Police said three people thought to have been at the party remain missing and
they expect the death toll to rise.

The gunman opened fire as soon as the door of the house was answered.

An eight-year-old girl who ran towards him was shot in the face.

Pardo continued to fire on the 30 people inside and the property, in the town of
Covina, Los Angeles County, was engulfed in flames after an explosion was heard.

Officers said the gunman used a homemade incendiary device to start the blaze.

He was later found dead at a relative's house.

"He died of self-inflicted wounds. We believe it was a marital dispute," a police
    spokesman said.

The missing people include the couple who own the home and Pardo's ex-wife.

Two people wounded by gunfire were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening
    injuries.

Witnesses have told police that the gunman stripped off his Santa costume after
the shooting and fled in street clothes.

NBC claims he drove home and then committed suicide, some 30 miles away. The house was entirely destroyed by the fire: firefighters arrived on scene only minutes after but were restricted from acting by police because it was an active gunfire situation - they had to be sure he wasn't still there. By then it was too late. So far only 8 bodies have been recovered. He set the house on fire using a homemade flamethrower he brought in a gift box. Survivors escaped through the windows and out of the 2nd floor to get away.

/waits for local California Correspondent, NTM

Meanwhile I need to be totally distracted from this horrible news - thank god I have so many presents.

This is where Ireland is going if we don't turn our backs on the devilry of consumerism and individualism and embrace Jesus Christ.

Care to explain why an 8 year old getting shot in the face is funny?

I don't know what sickens me more, someone thinking this whole situation is "funny" or someone with an agenda like yours, trying to use a tragedy to get us to believe in supernatural beings.

    Shame on both of you.

According to the BBC, this little girl is listed among the injured, and not the dead. I really hope she will one day recover from this terrible, terrible event.

I'll think you'll find that Kold and Húrin are being sarcastic and agree with your point of view.

Maybe start embracing Jesus Christ AFTER he prevents 8 year olds getting shot in the face?

    Maybe not......
Neighbors frequently saw Pardo working on his lawn and walking his dog, a big, brown Akita. Pardo served regularly as an usher at evening Mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montrose, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Jan Detanna, the head usher at the church, was stunned when told about the violence.
"I'm just — this is shocking," Detanna told the Times. "He was the nicest guy you could imagine. Always a pleasure to talk to, always a big smile."

It is shameful that I wish to prevent future incidents like this? I am trying to cut through the crap and get everyone to acknowledgethat incidents like this are not "random", but have social causes.

Although most people on boards.ie seem to hold a postmodern capitalist ideology and think they're great for it, I think that individualism to the exclusion of others is encouraged by consumerism. The idea that greed is good, is the source of the breakdown of society. It has thoroughly infected America, and it has made a lot of inroads here, which is not good.

Take your jesus and/or church and go stop the kiddie fiddling priests violating young children. When you've got everything sorted in your own house, then come and worry about other people's problems.......otherwise please stfu.

Hurin, please do keep your ideas to yourself. You don't know where Ireland is headed, nor does anyone else. Lets embrace Jesus Christ... Then what? He comming to save us? Oh please...

Consumerism... It's just great... why turn our backs on it? Well? What is your connection to the murders and comunerism?

Pretty crappy to happen, at any time of the year. We had our fair share of deaths over the holidays too. It's sad :(

Ahh yes, what constitutes a true scotsman....

You are aware that America is a relatively conservative, church going place btw.....
