Heres a recipe from the Avoca Cafe. The scones are gorgeous but there is good reason for their yummyness. Not recommended for those on a diet!!

    450g Self Raising Flour
    a pinch of baking powder
    a generous pinch of salt
    50g of caster sugar
    110g of unsalted butter
    1 egg lightly beaten
    50mls of double cream
    200mls of milk
1 egg beaten with 1tbsp of water to glaze

Sift dry ingredients into a bowl
Rub in the butter until the mix resembles breadcrumbs
Add the egg cream and enough milk to moisten
Mix well until you have a soft dough
Turn out onto a floured surface
Roll lightly until to 1 inch thickness (1 inch thick give quite flat scones. I usually roll to 1.5-2 inches thick)
    Cut out with cutter
Transfer to a greased baking sheet and glaze
Bake in an oven preheated to Gas 4 /350F/ 180C

    Makes about 10-12

Gorgeous with whipped cream and strawberry preserve
