I and anybody else I have asked seem to agree that it hardly feels like christmas at all this year because so few people have put decorations up!!
Has anyone else noticed a great difference on last year on the number of houses with them up!?

There's loads of the things where I live, problem is they're all flourescent blue for some reason. How is that Christmassy?

My Oh was only pointing this out the other day. I'd like to think that people were copping on and not trying to out do with their neighbours but maybe people just can't afford it this year.

Yeah most of the decorations I DO see are flourescent blue alright!!!
The thing is, I know you could attribute the lack of lights to people not having the money to buy decorations, but I would have thought people dont throw them out, I know we've had ours for at least 6 or 7 years!! Or maybe people thought differently about throwing stuff out after 1 use this time last year! :pac:

    Loads around here.

Person across the road has kids coming around admiring it, it realy is well done
Of course there is a collection bucket out for next months ESB bill charity, forgive my cynicism
I realy doubt the euros that people are giving are going to charity.

If you're in Dublin and around Dublin 5, maybe check out the house near St. Davids. Makes it onto TV3 everywhere, that owner has more money then sense but it realy is spectacular
Even a few taxi drivers I've been talking on completely different areas of the city to all know it.
It's practically a beacon for the pilots going to Dublin airport :pac:

I've seen sweet feck all this year, there's a lot less than there was last year.

    Which is nice...

Euro-Christmas lights are crap anyway. Difficult to wire up a lot of them. I much prefer the yankee way of doing it. The wires arent Earthed (just well insulated) but you cant beat the convenience of being able to string together a load of them through one outlet, without running all those extenstion cords.

Oh yeah, is that the house to which the ESB gives electricity for free during Christmas because theres such a mad display of decorations and lights? Somebody was telling me about that!

Outdoor lights like this are ghey, sorry but I hate them.

Christmas is supposed to be about celebrating with your family and friends, not showing your neighbours how big a knob you are.

It should be fineable offence to have blue lights.

They're not christmassy, and it's only there to make a fashion statement!

Sounds like a one way ticket to a fire tbh.
You mention it's the done thing in America, I'm hoping it's not the situation here

This guy has more money then sense as I said in my last post.
Fair play to the guy for the spectacular Christmas lights display and he collects a lot of money. Possibly he has a deal with the ESB but the place is thronged with kids every evening in late December and nobody can say 100% of the money is going to charity. Only this person knows for sure, I can never prove anything.
    It's on TV3 every year!
