This has started to appear on my macbook recently. I briefly had to connect to the internet via ethernet cable to sort out my router but I'm back to wireless now. My internet connection is not dropping when it displays this. How can I stop it popping up?

This message usually has to do with network shares that you may have connected, when the connection to them drops (which can be regardless of your internet connection going down). Did you possibly set up an alias to automatically mount something at startup which you no longer connect to?

God No! Thats a level of messing I'd never go near. I like to keep things simple.

It's not that difficult to do accidentally... Creating an alias is a right click menu option in Finder. Adding it to startup though is another thing... But other than a disconnection from a network share, I've never seen that message before. In Finder, if you click on "Go" in the menu bar, then open the "Network" item, you can see if there are other PCs/servers in your network and you might be able to track down what might be connecting/disconnecting....
