They're there, it's apparently a Cortina 1.6 but that doesn't explain much as the majority of the car is one...

@Limerick-man: Mk. 3 rear end surely? It's not as curved as the Mk. 4 and has different lights.

Its a mk3 escort hatchback screwed onto a 1981 MK5 cortina, looks like the job was done pretty well, cant imagine why hed do it though.

It's a mark 3 because of the design around the key hole for the boot. That bit of a lip.
Back lights are from the cortina.

It says Cortina, plain and simple on the back.

    Happy Crimbo lads.

And that's it? Is it a home made effort or built by Ford?

    (Apologies - off topic)

Excuse my ignorance lads :o but I used to think all those 'boxy' Cortinas were the Mk IV. What is the difference between a Mk IV and a Mk V?

Were the 'Cashel' and 'Tara' Mk IV or Mk V?

    Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭millington

MkV has more **** stuck to it.

    Seriously.

well in actuallity there isnt a Mk5...the mid life facelifted Mk4 was officially called Cortina 80. In practice although they looked similar there are a lot of mostly cosmetic differences between mk4 and "5" mainly apparent in the larger glass areas and coreespondingly thinner looking roof. Cashel Tara etc were run-out models of the Cortina 80

It's a home-made effort if thats the right description for a very professional job by a craftsman. Not everyones cup of tea I grant you,I think it was restored for personal enjoyment just cos he could! Certainly turns heads at shows and the fact that people have to ask Is it Ford? speaks volumes for the skill involved.

Many years ago a body repair man in Co.Louth welded the front and back halves of two Morris/Austin 1100 together. He felt he could quite legitimately leave the number plates of each half on the relevant half. One was ,I think HIY
    and the other GIY.

the judge took a different view.

    Happy Christmas Everyone.
