Even basic channels on NTL cable encrypted?

    Hi lads,

Silicondust are just about to release a DVB-T/DVB-C version of their HDHomeRun tuner. It's an interesting one, as it's an external tuner that streams the channels back over an ethernet cable. So nice for connecting to very small PVR devices.

I currently use a PVR500 (with 2 inbuilt tuners) in my mythtv box, with NTL analogue.

I'd like to get the HDHomeRun when it comes out, but...

Are all channels on NTL digital encrypted? Even the basic ones like RTE1, RTE2 which are on the analogue signal too?

I'm guessing they are, in which case this tuner will be no use to me sadly.

Alternatively, I know that RTE were still transmitting DVB-T from three-rock up to a few months ago anyway, so I could use it with that signal, I think.

I have analog NTL and when I hook it up to my LCD tv I can get RTE1 and RTE2 and I think TV3 also in digital. Maybe TG4 aswell. All the other channels are there too just scrambled. Hope this helps with your query.

    Thanks Tails142, that's about what I expected.

    TBH, I'm a bit surprised bog 1, 2 and 3 are un-encrypted ;) maybe it's a governmental requirement!
