Just saw this on RTE News. Is this not the coolest thing ever!?!?! He lives in a little shed half way up the Dublin Mountains, overlooking the whole city. No mortgage, no MBNA, no GE Money car HP, no Eircom, no estate management charges, none of this sh*te, just him and the animals and the remote countryside. I'd love to live like this, I might see if I can find him tomorrow and ask him would he like to swop places for the Crimbo and he can move in with my high maintenance sexy woman and I'll go live up in his shed for a week or two!

Why not try moving into your own garden shed down the end of the garden for a week and see how you like it?

I don't think the poor bugger was there by choice.

    It's not homeless, it's Bohemian.

Well kind of! He seemed homeless, says he is homeless, I'd love to live like this. Every summer, I take my tent and my dog and head up the Dublin mountains and wander miles off road and live like a tramp for the weekend and I love it!

I think the summer and weekend are the important bits there. Make it winter and always and I doubt you would still love it.

I'd say there will be a lot more of us living in his shed by this time next year... If it all goes t*ts up for me, this is what I'm doing, up to Killakee, take over the Hell Hire Club, squatters rights in 12 years time, open a restaurant soup kitchen for the tallaght peasantry, happy days!

i have a shed in the back of my garden you can live in for a while if i can live in your house for a while with your high maintenaince woman..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

I was hiking up there recently. Anybody who lives up there in a shed is mentally deranged, badly down on their luck or in possession of a thick outer layer of fur.

OP: most garden centres stock a wide variety of sheds. What are you waiting for?

A friend brings him up a Christmas dinner apparently, which he sits and eats while watching movies or listening to music

    He's called Henry.

whilst the idea of what he does is is quite cool, it's one of those things that wouldnt work out in real life and when you're given no choice it's not quite cool at all. Poor guy.

Good question. I thought I saw a radio on the report but he mentioned watching films so he's got some portable TV there.
    Diesal generator I assume

Wonder will the TV licence inspector call around? :D
I realise he's probably exempt due to welfare

Its only a lifestlye choice. If we don't watch it in 100 years we'll all be homeless and it will be the end of society as we know it.

Or it may not be a lifestyle choice. It could be just life circumstances which forced it.

One’s own dwelling place; the house or structure in which one lives; especially the house in which one lives with his family; the habitual abode ...

I would say this man doesn't have a typical house, but this shed does happen to be his HOME...

A hermit maybe, homless no. ;)

Was watching on RTE a piece about a homeless fella living up in the mountains near Dublin. But it got me thinking, with the uproar about foreigners claiming benefits, what is to stop these people from doing something similar? Surely, in this day and age, with people getting money for anything, no one should be homeless. Thoughts?
