Passive Cooled GPU or DIY fan control

    Hi All,
Got a Gigabyte Radeon 4670 for my HTPC (an aopen xcCube) but by god it's noisy and there's no fan control.

does anyone know of any low profile cooling solutions for this situation. the PCIe slot is only about 2cm from the edge of the case!

Alternatively, how would you slow down the fan (I don't mind cutting cables)

    TIA

ati CCC 8.12 should allow for fan control. download them from ati website.

the zalman vnf100 should also fit

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately the height of the zalman unit is nearly 4cm I only have 2 :-( . Also I think that it is designed for horizontally installed cards, mine is vertical.

The ATI CC may have the software ability to control the fan, but I think that the hardware doesn't support it.

Any other thoughts? Otherwise I'll have to stick to the onboard card and S-video

If that's a three-wire fan, then you may not be able to do anything with it.
You could attempt to insert a suitably sized resistor on the red wire, but you may need a 5W beast of a resistor if the fan runs at 500mA @ 12V...
Maybe consider installing a larger fan (they run slower) with a control board?
