Ok, I'm sure the fine musoes on boards will figure this out.

Seen this video on MTV2 Vintage Indie Anthems about a month ago. Heard the track again on the pure morning show on phantom a week or so ago, but they didn't announce the song name after it was over... It has been wrecking my head for ages and google has been no good to me.

ok, so the video has a white guy with a big red gretsch or hofner guitar. The singer is a black guy singing in a high pitch/higher key. Orchestra in the background... a big sound.

its a classic indie anthem from mid 90's direction. I think the song has 'street' in the title, something like 1st street or 2nd street. I think it was a collaboration rather than a band. I was originally thinking it was someone like Ryan Adams, but it doesn't seem to be the case from google searches...

So boardsies... over to you ;)

Yes! Sounds like McAltmont and Butler.

The Butler being ex Suede guitarist Bernard Butler who's producer/co-writer with yer wan Duffy now I believe , but also produced Sons + Daughters.

The McAltmont is some bloke what sings high.

For you geeks out there (and I know there are some!) the strings sound wooojus out of tune because the song is in a 'Non String Handy' key as I recall.

    That's how/why I remember it!

p.s. I saw McAltmont in Air Studio London with Bond Composer David Arnold. Is he singing on the latest Bond?

    Great tune!

Not to be confused with The Manics' song of the same name, which is also great but, um, somewhat different.

Always loved Disappointment from the same album (The Sound of McAlmont and Butler), too
