Do the AGS have targets to meet?.

    Here's the story..

I was in a taxi this morning, turning from Drumcondra Rd upper onto North Frederick St and there's a policeman down the road waiting for motorists to make the illegal turn.

"fvck" says I "Fvcking sly whore, why doesn't he stand up on the corner and be a deterent instead of being a tosser (I didn't actually say tosser, I said something stronger) and catching people AFTER they make the turn"..

To which the other guy in the cab says "Yes, but they've to meet targets"..

Now I've heard that a lot, but personally I don't believe it. Is there any truth in it?.

I've noticed the same thing happening on Parliment St, guards catching drivers turning right from Wellington Quay.

Do you not believe that being done for the illegal turn will act as a deterrent the next time the motorist wants to do it?

And yea, the copper is an awfull tosser for doing his job:rolleyes:

No idea if they have to meet targets.

Seeing the gard on the corner and turning the other way is a deterrant today. Being caught because you couldnt see him means every time you come to that junction you know theres a chance he could be down the road.l

There are no specific targets to be met.
What you saw this morning was Karlitosway providing ammunition for posters on this thread.

A one liner probably doesn't correctly answer your question, so before some other poster comes on with a tale of tagets to meet, I'll clarify.

You will not be given a specific target number of traffic offences to meet. That said, it is only reasonable that members detailed for traffic enforcement have a "return of work".
Any Garda who is detailed for that duty will tell you that it's not difficult to have a decent return of work without screwing joe public.

    Your example this morning:

The Garda was probably detailed for that duty because of complaints from Dublin bus or Taxi drivers, as they are the only ones entitled to turn down Nth Frederick St from Dorset St.

Our public service vehicle drivers are very territorial when it comes to where they can drive and you can't

Thanks again CLADA for clearing that up.

Tbh I don't care if someone is caught making illegal turns, serves 'em right for being stupid. For instance I see taxi drivers taking the turn onto Parliment street fairly wide to give themselves a view up the street before committing themselve to the turn.

It just seem's to me that the chaps time this morning would be better served standing on the corner and being a deterent, but then I know Zippidy Doo Da about policing of course.
