    Hi all,

We will be suiting up my wife soon, before she passes the theory and takes to the roads.

Can anyone give me some advice about where to buy in Dublin, new or secondhand ? We'll need to try stuff on for size. In fact anywhere in the country ?

And with the newer fabric gear, should be as tight as you can, or loose and comfortable ?

    Any advice appreciated.

OK to help with ur query we would need to know if ur wife is slight build (small wee thing) or tall. these would deterime where we would send ya.
I am five ft nothing, i find Richa gear great and Lewis, both are an excellent fit for me, Mega bikes on wexford st have a good selection.

As for fit, she needs to try the gear on and try squotting in it, she will need to be able to get on and off a bike comfortably and also not have gear that is too big.

I would recommend getting Lady star dytona boots, they are great, also lady fit gloves. Where at all possible buy lady gear and not guys gear, ladies gear is designed with woman in mind, curves are in right places, as i said above alot depends on size and shape.

    Good luck and happy shopping

    Thanks for your reply.

Well, she's 5' 9'' and all there. Lovely and curvy, oh yes :D

I posted the question, because a lad at work reckons the ladies' clothing is only a money racket.

However, even though we're the same height, when she tried on my jacket the shoulder protection was half-way down her arm. Useless. I've only ever worn leathers, so I don't know how the modern fabrics should fit.

Thanks for the recommendation, will head over there and have a look.

No worries Mate, as i said if she has a female figure then defo female gear, i know some woamn bikers that are build like builders and can wear the guys gear cause they are just so bloody big and then there are others who have the curves in the right places and they defo need a better fit gear, Good luck and happy biking, don't forget the squotting when she has the gear on, needs to be able to bend knees and be comfortable, gear shouldn't restrict her movement when on the bike and its always a bonus when the gear looks good too, there is some really nice gear out there for females......

I am that small female! Well, small in height anyway! :D I'm 5ft 2in and found it difficult to get clothing that fits properly - as was said above, lads gear just doesn't always suit, especially leathers.

I found boots particularly difficult to find, because many ranges don't offer smaller sizes (I'm a 5 / 38).

Anyhoo, the most comfortable cordura gear I've got came from Lidl (they stock mens and womens sizes when the bike gear comes in, and if it doesn't fit, you can return it without any difficulty), and I got my boots at the recent NEC show from a specialist female biker gear shop (www.girlsbike2.co.uk).

It was different up til a few yrs ago BUT now its no problem getting gear, i am 5 ft nothing and have two pairs of leathers and one pair of textiles trousers, 3 leather and 2 textile jackets, they are all lady fit and are great on, the reason for so many is some are for winter and some for summer. As for boots i take a size 3 and have had no problem getting boot s either. I will say certain shops don't cater for females so stay clear of those ones, my last pair of boots i bought on line and they are great....

Do try all the above, but, if it doesn't work out, there's another choice: if you can get a cheap flight to Manchester for the day, go to Hein Gericke (actually, they've a shop up North, as well).

The problem, as always, is having a range to pick from and try on, rather than just taking the only ladies' item they have.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

I'd definitely recommend a trip to Hein Gericke as well.

There are two stores in Ireland, Newry and Belfast. Was up there in the Belfast shop on Monday and apart from having a great range, which is well laid out etc, of very high quality stuff (including "Lady" styles and fit), you're making a killing on the exchange rate. I was looking at a jacket in a store here in Dublin that was 498 euros but got a better jacket for 299 sterling which translated to about 315 euros. The savings currently are just too massive to ignore!

You can browse their online store to get some ideas here: http://www.hein-gericke.co.uk/shop/index.php/cPath/1

    Ah. Well. You see.

    Sorry about that, people :o

Had old uni. friends visiting for a couple of days and I think one of them was acting the boll*x whilst very inebriated. :D Note to self - next time, log out. And lock drinks cabinet.

Anyway, went to Hein Gericke in Belfast last weekend and did the business. Madame is thrilled, and on Friday just gone, she flew the Theory test. Just waiting on the license to arrive now.

On the other hand - paid E300 snots for a helmet in Dublin a couple of weeks ago. Went online at home to get more info on it - it's on sale with a UK online store for £120.

Thanks again, esp. for the HG suggestion.
