    Lo all,

Was just posting the details for the free games day(See sticky) on the 29th on the Bebo page(www.bebo.com/irishairsoft) and it got me thinking. There are loads of players that dont use boards, or IAF, or the IAA site, or Airsoft Ireland. If they are on a team, they'll probably get a call, or if they skirmish coming up to an event, it'll come up in conversation. But, the irregularly playing, small/no team skirmishers may well not hear about X event 'till two days prior when they've already planned something or not hear of it at all.

BUT! Most people nowadays have email, and check it every now and again. So, I know a mailing list for general conversation was set up before and failed, but I think this could work.

    The System:
    1. Site Owner sends details to mailing list address(I'll manage it as I'm a net-aholic). The event must be of a large scale(Gathering etc.) or benefitting a charity(HRTA Birthday Shoot etc.).
    2. I'll format it into an breif informational mail with links to all the further info you might require.
    3. Anyone on the mailing list will get a copy.

The benefits: Players get more targets, site owners get some buisness which in turn is always good for the player. Charity games may have increased numbers = more fundraising. Note, no special offers from retailers ect. will be fowarded on, this is not for spamming.

Overall, I think it will help the growth of the sport in this country.

So, polls there, 'lemme know what you think.

If it goes ahead, I'll give details to retailers, site ops and web admins, so if they want they can pass on the address to players. Its mutually benefitial.

Poll is set for 48 Hrs,
    Simon.

Do you think there is potential in the below proposal? 21 votes

    Yes, I think there is.

Good idea but tbh, the hard part is getting people to sign up to the mailing list in the first place.

As great as that sounds, email lists have a tendancy to get extremely messy?

    How does a website sound?

I have no problem setting up and maintaining a website in the new year that would be informative for event scheduling around the country.

Be one simple web address that would have all upcoming events.

I've been on the dev team and journo team for sites like

    http://www.sk-gaming.com
    http://www.four-kings.com

So i have a good grasp on running these things and just keeping them informative.

Site owners could send me an email with their event and it gets thrown onto the main page.

Along with a subsection for each site containing their opening hours, directions etc etc

I know its on the irishinfowiki, but I dont mind setting this up just as a quick reference for events.

I dont want to setup a forum, as much as i could, I feel websites that have setup trying to rival boards has been a flaming disaster/ inevitable disaster.

If theres enough interest ill do it, although in fairness its something im going to do anyway probably, cause i havnt run a website in a long time on my own and i kinda miss it.

There could also be the opportunity for the news thread here to be located in a concise organised webpage with archives.

Anyways input on the idea would be great

Sorry simon i dont mean to steal your thunder, but i am setting up a new site in the new year, and any ideas relating to airsoft could be sweet to know.

Good ideas lads lads, theres plenty of players out there that are not up to date, and whats not surprising is that theres a lot of players who use bebo so they have connections to the net, if a mailing list or a site is set up you could spread the word through there

That might in fact be the better option. Basically, an Irish Airsoft website with no agenda other than to inform Airsofters of a wide range of events at a wide range of sites/retailers

Ahh, think you're setting yourslef up for a fall there....

Thing is, if people are gonna check anything, they'll check boards or A.I. If they arent gonna check them, they wont check any other site set up from where I'm sitting. They are either too busy or too lazy or they have a life:p In any case, email does the work for them, all they have to do is read a few lines of text. The plan would be for a very simple and concise structure. See example:

    Dear Subscriber,

The below details may interest you:

Event: Get out and Skirmish Day
    Date: Monday 29th/12/08
Location(s): Fingal Airsoft, Drogheda Airsoft, G-Tac....(You get the idea)
Important Facts/Prerequisites: 1. Free gaming at all sites listed, 2. Prize Draw for all players.
Description: In order to boost player numbers and get players to try a new site, Bren from Fingal Airsoft has orchestrated a play for free day on Monday teh 29th for all airsofters at several venues. More details at: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055446784
    Pricing Guide: Free

    Regards,
    Irish Airsoft Events

That's a horribly unkept website... Some of the pages dont actually have an info on them at all.. And wikis aren't nice to use either...

    Doom

The info site is a wiki, its not a "run" site. Its kinda moderated if you will, it requires people to submit info. Gerrout runs that by himself, and he is going to find himself bogged down with iaa stuff, along with the fact he probably wants to enjoy his life haha.

So if it be the case, I'll help out with the wiki.

But the basic idea was just a simple webpage with events listed on it. Its not competition to boards (thats a loosing battle) and its not a big " oooo i hate politics im going to be a rebel and setup my own site" ( to which will also fail)

Its just a simple, low key website, that can display info about events and sites. Site owners simply email me their info for an upcoming event, gets posted. Along with that is an attendance list so people can see what numbers are like. And also there can be a weather forecast for the scheduled day.

Idea for being simple, is people can check it from home pc, laptops, phones pda the works.

And its just a simple idea really, with simple info, yet valuable. Not everyone uses boards, not everyone likes boards.

Everyone would use a website, its jsut that simple.
