The divisional and boundary changes for An Garda Síochána for 200 have been announced.

    New Garda Boundaries 2009

    Press Release - National Changes

    Divisonal Changes

    New Divisions

My local area, Newport, has been moved from the Clare Division to the Tipperary Division. I am not too happy about this as we will be relying on the Nenagh station as our 24 hour station - which at least 30-40 mins away. We were fifteen minutes from the Killaloe station when we were in the Clare Division. For a town that has expanded rapidly over the last few years and one which is experiencing quite serious anti-social behavior issues I am not sure how this was seen as a positive change. We have already had our local station been downgraded over the last decade. I am guessing local patrols will become less frequent as the Gardai in Nenagh will not exactly be rushing to patrol an area on the fringes of the district that takes an age to get to.;)

    What's the panic?

Sure, with all the manpower we have now, I.T., Air Support, state-of-the-art fleet etc., distance is no object!

Typical inertia by overpaid, underworked public servants!

Seems like the big scorer is Midleton District handing Ardmore and Ballyduff to Dungarvan.

Makes a lot more sense, really. Keeping things aligned with County boundaries always made life easier.

On the most part it id s great idea to allign to county borders, but then there are some places that it just wont work, border toens, some are right on the border, it gets messy in terms of responsees and cove areas and all that jazz...

Wexford Wicklow was split into WX and WW recently, my old division was WX/WW.

    Ah the memories

I see Thurles has shaken off Johnstown and Urlingford at last. :)

    ..Hmm..

So I take it that shoulder numbers will be amended to reflect the new divisional layout?

Gone be the WW's in Wexford and the WK's in Waterford/Kilkenny?

    /prepares transfer sheets for Wexford
