NFS Undercover - Crappy Frame Rate

    Hello all!

I got my PS3 yesterday (early Xmas present) and I got NFS Undercover with it which I obviously played for a while...

Anyway, I was shocked at how crapy the frame rate was... When I'm racing you can really see the frame rate slowing down dramatically and I find that unacceptable considering the price of this console!

Is this normal? If you have that game, are you having the same issue? Would copying the game to the HDD help in any way? How do I do that anyway?

FYI: the first thing I did was hook up the PS3 to the Webernet and it downloaded loads of different files so AFAIC I'm all up to date!

    Thank you in advance!

the game is just poorly made - it has massive frame rate problems. It is not indicative of all PS3 titles.

AFAIK its the same on all the PS3's, You will probably have to wait till they release a patch if it is affecting the game that much!

not even a ps3 issue, its the same on the 360

It is a **** game. Has nothing to do with your console.

    Rubbish.

Well that's a load of donkey balls! Can I return it? I've played previous versions of the game on the PC (was a PC gamer ONLY until yesterday) and I've never had such problems!

PC Games can't be returned but can I return PS3 games? I won't be playing it if that problem can't be fixed!

    PHEWWWWWWWWWWW (Huge sigh of relief)

Thanks for confirming that! Was getting worried to be honest...

Just read some reviews online and they all agree. Poor game with massive frame rate issues and disappointing graphics. I hope I can return it!

If it was a package deal then you probably won't.

    Stick it on adverts.

And if you feel like consoling yourself about the machine's capabilities, go on the PSN store and download Wipeout HD. It'll make you feel better.

Will do! And good call on the package deal! That's exactly why I got it! ;)

How much do you think I can sell this game for? I mean it's brand new with not a spec on the disc!

I'm currently downloading the 4 free games I got with the console so that should keep me happy for a while! :D

Actually, do you guys know how I can tell the PS3 to go ahead and download at full whack? I have a 10MB connection but it's downloading really slow... :o

go into your router settings via your pc, and click on dmz

then put the ps3's ip address in there, it opens all ports to the ps3

Oh! For the download speed issues you mean? I thought we were still on the subject of frame rates! :D

Unfortunately, my flatmates forgot the password to the router so we can't access it anymore... Might have to do a factory reset... :(

yeah its the game, not your PS3. I rented it for the PS3 and after seeing the crappy framerates I decided to "acquire" it for the PC. Problem solved, the PC version doesn't suffer from any framerate issues as you can tweak the graphical settings to make it run better. Thankfully I have a PC that can run it maxed out.

Here's a video I recorded of myself with the pagani zonda all upgraded and tuned for acceleration. I know, my driving is crap. I was in the mood for making a video so I just made one of the game I was playing at the time.

Click on it to go to youtube and switch to the HD version

To show you that the problem is that the game is too graphically intensive for the PS3. You need a fairly decent PC to play it. It also seems to be capped at 720p. I tried playing it at 1080p and it ran exactly the same with no graphical difference.

Graphically intensive? The game looks ****. I think it's more a case of awful coding. It was the same with Pro Street.

I'm with you on that one! Looks far from great graphically... Was probably rushed to be out for Christmas...

Looks far better on the PC L31mr0d (couldn't watch it earlier as I was in work and YouTube is blocked)! And no signs of frame rate issues either! Might get it on the PC... We'll see! ;)

How much of it have you played? What detracts from it for me was the bloom and HDR being overused, but I linked to a patch for that in the NFS thread in the games forum. But there are some nice touches graphically in it. Particularly the particle effects.

I will admit its not an amazing leap forward compared to Pro Street, and a lot of the issues are probably down to poor optimization. But then its an EA game so you'd be a fool to expect anything more from them.

does your pc come with a magical "make crappy game good" button? coz if it doesnt, the graphics running smoothly isnt exactly much use

Seems a bit stupid either way. Surely they sell more console versions than PC versions.
