Shipping to USA?

I have to ship two items weighing 1.3kgs each to New York in the morning and it appears than An post will charge me €35.50 for the privilege. I wonder is there any method of reducing this cost? I will be sending it as a registered Parcel. Fedex wants around €100 to collect and ship it so I wonder is it a case of An Post…
