Lens usage

I was wondering how often we use the lenses we buy and keep in the bag. I have a Sigma 17-70 2.8-4.5, Canon 50 1.8, Tamron 55-2004.5 pretty typical amateur stuff - ( would like 10-20 and dedicated macro !) However I find that the Sigma stays on my camera 75% of the time.do we photographers like to cover all the bases or do we really use our gear regularly? I appreciate that the professional and semi professionals amongst us don't work to the same agenda.

I use all of mine except the macro lens. Can't remember the last time I used it.

I'm sure there was a post on here at some stage that contained a link to a program that looked at all your photos exif data and gave you a graph or reading or something to that effect telling you what you used most often. I'm sure you could find an answer there.

However if it's more a general question I guess it's based more on the type of person your are than anything else. ie Do you need to have certain lenses in your bag because certain mags/sites recommend them, or everyone else swears by them. Or do you do your own research into what you actually like to take photos of, buy the most suitable kit for that purpose and persue that course of thought Only straying from it when you really do need a new lens to fulfill a need that can no longer be achieved by your current kit?

Me, I'm not really in this game long enough (or focused enough on any one aspect) to give a true answer. I've tried to stick too various kit that I'll actually use. I've sold a few lenses that didn't make it out of the bag enough to pay for something that would. Even though when I originally bought the first ones I was sure they were the right ones for me.
My macro lens is currently the one getting the least amount of time so I'll get rid of it if that's how things continue. Reckon I'll see how I feel in and around March!(Different creative phases and all that)
    :)

    lol :D

Using the 50mm f/1.8 more than I would have now, thanks to Fajitas..
The 24-70L still gets plenty of usage.
70-200L gets used pretty much only for sports when im shooting it, or unless i have another need to use it. Still handy to have, though!

Just use that lens that suits your style of photography, your favorite subject and the one that is technically capable of doing so.

challengemaster - the joke is that it is the only lens I have so far. Thanks to supporter called Borderfox I had wonderful opportunity to test some other lenses on Sunday. And I got two lenses for home testing as well. To find out what to buy first. 24-70, 70-200, 135 or lensbaby. Or something wiiide.

My minolta 75-300 f4-5.6 gets the most use (I do a lot of wildlife photography) Its about 15 years old and its still way better than the new sony or the sigma or tamron 70 300...... However I'm saving for the 70 300 G lens! My 50 f1.7 gets quite a bit macro use too
