I'm using Excel 2000 and have a lot of numbers (prices) that I need to update what I need to do is to figure out what is the percentage of a number.

e.g. 300 minus 21.5% is 235.5 leaving 64.5 as the amount of VAT and I need a formula to be able to figure out what is the vat on each number

Thanks a million if you can help! not used to excel as the office girl is on Christmas Break!

    Any help would be great

The vat is calculated as a percentage of the before-vat price! The price you are dealing with is the price inclusive of VAT

You have to divide by 121.5 ( to get 1 percent of the base price) and multiply by 21.5 to get the amount of VAT paid or multiply by 100 to get the price without VAT.

as for a formula, if the VAT Inclusive prices are in the A column, the formula for the amount of VAT would be =(A1*21.5/121.5)
