    Hi folks,
can anyone help me here, I'm just setting up my new(ish) Onkyo 875 receiver. I have all the speakers set up just nice now, and am getting a clear sound from the radio.
But I didn't really buy it to listen to the radio! Neither the reciever or TV manual (as far as I can see) tells me how to set up the TV audio through the amp. I only have cable TV at the moment, and can't figure out where I'm going wrong.
    TTFN.

do you have a decoder or just basic cable??

if its a decoder, then take an output from that into the amp.

If its just basic cable then check if your tv has an audio output. if it does then use that into the amp.

    Thanks for your reply.
Yes the TV has optical audio out (I presume that's the best option).
I guess I just figured that the HDMI cable would do it.
    I'll try that though.

Another quick q.... if I get the finger out and buy the BluRay player that I'm thinking of (Sony BDPS550), do i still need the optical audio out?

if you're using blu ray, i'd suggest connecting that up to the amp with hdmi and bitstreaming the audio to the amp as that will give better sound than using optical

with blu ray players and HD audio, there are 2 ways to get that audio to the amp.

    decode or bitstream.

decode means that the blu ray player decodes the audio and sends it to the amp for amplification ONLY.

bitstream means that the player sends out the audio in its raw form. the amp then decodes and amplifies the signal. your amp must specify if it does decode HD audio (dolby trueHD & dts-hd ma)

i have a panasonic BD35 blu ray player which can bitstream or decode. i have an onkyo 806 amp. i have my player going into the amp with hdmi BITSTREAMING as in most situations, the amp will be a better decoder than the player
