    As the title says
Who drives the oldest car Everyday?

    I drive a 1956 Volkswagen everyday

    CopyofP10201951.jpg

It a lovely car to drive. Full of character
The brakes aren't great (They work perfectly and are all new but 50 year old brakes.. need i say anymore)
    Safety features are alot lacking
Heating is sufficent to stop you freezing -- no demister for windows etc.
Tough enough to start on frosty mornings as its 6v
wipers are funny. alot of the time its better not to use them
Its not the fastest car with its 30bhp engine
I could upgrade engine, brakes, heating, electrics but why would i ?
It sounds like a lot of negatives but I love the car and have driven it a few thousand's of miles since my maiden voyage in April this year, it has never let me down (except when i ran out of petrol) Oh ?I forgot to mention no fuel gauge

    I just have a look.
I've being thinking about getting a dip stick my first though was a ruler but the tank is about 13" deep
If there a good bit in it you will hear it sloushing around when you stop
There is a reserve but i don't have it hooked up
I (nearly) always have a gallon in the boot

    Just thought of something else
    There is no flashing indicators

Nice, are the headlight pods off a capri MK3?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 688 ✭✭✭bugsntinas

cheers.ye the lights are fron a capri, the wheels are off a mondeo and it has mk2 granny front leather seats.like most corts the fuel gauge don't work so we have a bamboo cane marked 1/4,1/2,3/4 and full we stick in the tank.oh the joys of old cars.the gauges on the others work fine.

I don't drive it quite every day, but it isn't quite the cherished classic. My daily driver doesn't have a hitch, and also I discovered is a bit small for carrying around flat pack furniture and surfboards! :)
