I am being let go next week and I want to sign on asap.

What do I need to bring with me? I live in Dublin 7 so which social welfare office do I go to? I have approx €18,000 (savings for impending wedding accumulated over a few years) so will that affect me getting it?

Sorry about asking all the basic questions but I have never signed on before (aged 30)

If you are being made redundant you will be making an application for Jobseekers Benefit. This is a payment covered by your PRSI contributions. Should you have enough contributions there should not be a problem, there are allowance periods where you have to wait a number of weeks if you receive a large redundancy payment. Jobseekers Benefit is not means tested so your saving won't come into question. Jobseekers Allowance is means tested where savings etc and all forms of potential income will have to be discussed.

I'm not getting redundancy. I am a trainee solicitor and my training contract is finished.

Which dole office do I need to go to? How long would it take initially to register? I do realise that there is an interview at some stage.

thanks for the replies so far.

Most likely it will be the SWLO on the Navan Road but you can always ring first to check. They will be able to confirm this for you if you give them your address.

The number of the office on the Navan Road is (01) 882 3100. More information can be found on the Department of Social and Family Affairs website

You should be able to find answers to all your questions here.
