Can anyone recommend an open source widgit that I can use in this environment? For example I am using Simple Calendar Widget (SCW) for inputting dates.

you want something like tiny mce? i'm not sure if that's compatible though?

If you are using a Java Server (Tomcat) you could try ICEFaces which provides rich JSF AJAX components.

Otherwise try the dojo toolkit
