How do I convert .mov to .avi?

Just back from holidays and the short movie clips I took on my digital camera are in .mov form.
Is there a freeware converter or some easy way to convert them to .avi or .wmv or similar?

Any converters I've tried are free trials of software I need to pay for to work properly so no joy so far.

+1 for Super,being using it for ages now,a few initial hiccups (file problems) but its the best,and free.What more could you want

I've used SUPER as well, but on occasion it doesn't like certain file types
