Putting linux on a handheld device

Hi guys, I have gotten a little media player thing (same as this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220325753263&cguid=510d723a11e0a0aad2e0bc00fff8dbcb) Does any know if it is possible to install an OS that will allow me to read pdfs and if possible .doc files?

http://www.linuxtogo.org might be a starting point for you. I found it an article about putting Linux on a PDA in Linux Format Magazine.
I'd imagine it would be similar to what your looking for but it may be a bit more involved.
